Adding shows from other systems to the SageTV "Recordings" folder like Sagetv does

I want to populate my SageTV "Recordings" Main menu with imported videos. I am not a fan of the Video directory and would like to add a bunch of seasons of videos into the main recordings menu to make certain shows seasons easier for the DW to find. Most of them were salvaged from a sagetv server sans Wiz.bin files others were recorded by plex. It would be great if I could get it to have a show listed, and then many episodes behind it exactly like what sagetv does when it records a bunch of episodes for a show.

I have tons of files like this imported using the Batch Metadata Tools (BMT). Look at some of the threads on that plugin. Your files have to be named a certain way, and then run the media scan. I believe there is an option where you say import TV Files as Recordings when you go to update Metadata in BMT.

I think the naming format is something like "Seinfeld - S08E03".

Thanks, I just installed the plugin on my test STV box and for some reason its not wanting to start sagetv now. Oh well, I will look at it the morning. Glad I didn't load it on my prod box. Is it supposed to work on the 64 bit version of sage? -Bill

It works on my new Sage64 build. I may have had to reboot or something after installing.

I rebooted the machine and that fixed it. Thanks! The instructions only mentioned restarting sagetv. Hopefully the tutorials will explain how to import shows. Although I am not seeing one that does that yet. -Bill

I just imported 3 episodes of a show into Recordings. They came in as 3 separate lines in Recordings. Is there a way to import them to the show name only and then have the episodes behind that so you can browse the recordings like shows you may have recorded with SageTV and not watched any of the episodes yet? -Bill

What is the naming structure of the files? I can't remember of the top of my head but it has to be something like Seinfeld - S01E01 or maybe it is Seinfeld -- S01E01. Then if you import through BMT it should read them and pull in metadata and fanart. In BMT click Browse and then on the left click to the folder that you want. Then click Update Metadata. Make sure that you click Import TV Files as Recordings.

One thing that may break this is that I believe I read that TVDB is changing its API or even shutting down. That will likely break things. See: https://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=66581

I don't know if the above issue is fatal.

Worst case scenario you can manually edit the metadata through BMT or the SageTV UI but that is painful. And not feasible if you have hundreds or thousands of recordings. But BMT can help with that as well.
