Lockup

I was watching PGA Golf and around 4:20 The pricture froze. It seemed like Sage was still recording and active as I could get back to the main menu put Sage to sleep and even do up channel and see the cable box change. However the TV image remained frozen. I re-booted Sage and everything was ok. Again around 5:30 the same thing happened. This prompted me to look in the Video directory where Sage had created three files the first labeled PGAgolfBuickOpenFinalRound-5620104-0.mpg size 1,185,314K the time 4:22PM, the second file PGAgolfBuickOpenFinalRound-5620104-1.mpg size of 2,254,284KB , the time 5:33PM and the third PGAgolfBuickOpenFinalRound-5620104-2.mpg, size 687,735KB, time 6:00PM.

So it looks like the Freezes happened at the time that each new file was created except for the third file. I have had similar freezes before but did not pay much attention to them.

If anybody has any ideas as to what may have happened here I would appreciate your input.

I thought lock ups were common when using an intel chipset motherboard with the pvr 350 or are these problems not around anymore

have you tried turning off the OSD and see if you get the lockups?

The installation of the SHS beta Driver solved the lockup probklems for me. These lockups started after the installation of a second tuner card. It seemed to me that their was a possibility that the file creation caused the problem since the times were very close to the actual lockups. This is pure speuclation on my part.

The lockups are not that frequent so I will live with it and see what happens. If I continue to have them I will try your suggest and turn off the OSD.

Perhaps lockup is not the best description. What happens is that the TV out picture/images freezes. Sage seems to be ok in other respects. It is still recording and as I said if I do a channel change it appears to be working except for the frozen image on the TV. So far the only way I have been able to get the TV out to work again is to restart Sage.

I think it is more likely that the lockup caused the segmented files.

Be sure to check the recordings. While they do continue, I noticed that some of them had poor quality once I encountered a lockup issue.

This was something I was unsure of. Does Sage always create one continous file when recording?

Unless you are changing channels during live TV & then return to a previous channel, or unless the file size reaches the file system's max file size, then yes: a continuously recorded show should result in a single recording file.

(FAT32 has a max file size of either 2 or 4 GB, can't remember since it is so long since I bothered with FAT32 for large files.)

I had set the "Gride" for manual record last week(Mondays 9PM) . Tonight I was watching MLB baseball and I remembered about the Gride being on. So I tried to switch to that show. I when to scheduled recording, recording schedule selected the Gride and selected watch now Whe I did this Sage switched to the Gride but the picture just Froze. If I put Sage to sleep I can get back to LiveTV but cannot get to the Grid. I did this a few times and now see their are five files in the video director for the grid show.

I am beginning to think that the problems is related to the two cable boxes whihc are controlled by one USB-UIRT using Zone control . Is this possbile based on the symptoms?

Hi,

I also get this symptom from time to time. I have the new SHS drivers and the ODS now seems to work fine. The TV picture freezes, but the OSD still works fine, I can go back to the TV guide, etc.

It only happens once every few days, so it's not a big hassle, but if anyone has any ideas, Im willing to try them out.

Cheers

Mark

Some additional information on the latest lock up problem:

When these lockup's occured I had one tuner card set with a merit of 5 and the other with zero. As an experiment I change both cards to zero. After this change everything performed as expected. While watching LiveTV I was able to join a program in progress (recording) by going to scheduled recording, recording schedule and selected the show. Previously when I tried this the TV out Froze.
