Plex or Alternative for Roku TV

I have a Roku TV that I was going to try to setup Plex on to view Recordings from SageTV. I've noticed that I don't get all the recording scanned into Plex. I also noticed that there was a custom Plex Scanner built a while back that seems to help with this problem. I looked at trying to install it but; it is old and I don't know if it will work in v9 x86 that I am using; nor do I posses the computer skills to install it without more detailed guidance from one of you guys. Is that scanner still functional for this purpose, and/or is there an alternative out there that would be better suit my needs? All I want is to be able to watch TV shows that my SageTV Server Records on my Roku TV without having to find an extender or build a client. LiveTV is not necessary. Thanks for any help you can offer.

Craig

I think that Scanner should work, at least for shows that have metadata that Plex can find at TVDB. It might be harder for shows like sports that don't have metadata.

You can also try getting an extender. People have been giving them away for shipping costs.

I use my Roku TV with Emby server, pushing Sage recordings through MCEBuddy to configure for Emby. That method gets most of them with pretty high quality at a remote location with poor bandwidth. Finding the recordings in Emby can be a snipe hunt sometime. Also, I have to wait until MCEBuddy does its thing before they're available.

But I've started using the Firestick 4K and Android client to view Sage live and recorded content; That method plays back some recordings/channels smoothly, but others have halts. With Monday's football game I'd get a few minutes of playback and then a 15 second halt. With some OpenDCT tweaking I can get closed captions.

To be fair, when I switched to the HD-300 I also had halts and they happened often enough to make watching painful. Time to switch from DSL to the Mom'n Pop cable company on this small island to up the bandwidth from 5mps to 12.

Honestly I would suggest buying an Amazon Firestick (recommend the 4k version), using the SageTV Android app, and calling it done. They are still on sale for $30 at Amazon. I realize it is yet another device, but honestly it's probably worth the $30 to have a reliable solution and not have to mess with all this other stuff.

As a side note, I hate that there are two major players in the streaming world (Amazon and Roku). I've ended up with two devices on a lot of my TVs because I have Spectrum TV and they only have a Roku app (I use it because I cannot record every channel on my cablecard tuner and/or when SageTV goes down for some reason) and Amazon Firesticks to run SageTV because they don't work on Roku. It's like the old Betamax vs VCR war, but this one doesn't have an end in sight!
