Audio Occasionally Out Of Sync

So I've got a docker container running on unraid with two firewire controlled STB's being recorded by HDPVR units. I'm using component cables for video and optical audio for 5.1 audio on both STBs.

It happens on occasion where I will tune into a live TV program and the audio will be out of sync from the video and I won't see progress on the watched bar.

I'm pretty sure that it's always related to a specific tuner/hdpvr but it seems that I can never recreate the issue when I try to spend time diagnosing it, but sure enough the next time my wife sits down to watch something it will happen immediately.

She's ready to throw my sage server out the window and drive over it several times on her way to go purchase some off the shelf alternative.

Any suggestions on how I can go about troubleshooting this and hopefully increase the overall WAF?
