RecordedTV via USB 3.0?

I am about to spring for one of the NUCs (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075VSBNQY...lig_dp_it&th=1)

Pre-loaded w/Win 10 because I'm not up to Linux.

My current Sage server has RecordedTV on two 3-tb hard drives and I am eager to move them to the new server "as-is"... i.e. without any reformatting or copying.

I have explored LAN-based options and struck out.

Is there any hope for just plopping those drives into a couple of USB3 enclosures and hanging them in the NUC box?

I am thinking possible speed limitations as opposed to Ethernet or eSata.

The way I read the description, it seems like I should be able to put the two drives into one of these things: https://www.amazon.com/Mediasonic-Pr...t+drive&sr=8-3 and be able to see both as separate drives over a single USB3 connection.

USB3 should be fine from a speed perspective.

Couldn't you just keep your existing Sage server running as a Windows file share and point the new server at it if you really don't want to move anything around?

I wouldn't worry about using USB3 from a speed perspective as long as only USB3 devices are plugged into the USB3 bus. I've test recorded multiple shows while watching two shows via extenders, all on USB3 external drives. No issues.

Although I did that test on an Ubuntu box with a dedicated PCIe USB3 adapter, I don't think the results would be much different on a NUC running Windows with the built in USB3 port.

USB 3.0. It has a maximum throughput of 5Gb more than enough for recording a lot of shows at the same time. I would make sure any Drives I attach to the NUC has it's own Power Supply. When these NUCS are busy with Comskip etc... the CPU draws more power.

These are Great .... They support up to 2 10 TB HD and are self powered.

Existing server is kaput, hence the new server.
