Metadata Disappearing from Imported Videos

Greetings fellow Sages,

I've started seeing data from my properties files not being properly imported along with its associated video in Sage. The first time I saw this it didn't recognize the genre, but all other metadata in the file was imported ok(title, actors, etc). I've been importing videos w/its metadata successfully for a few years now, and use a template to format the mp4.properties file. I couldn't find any difference between the problem file and others I've imported. Restarted Sage to no effect, so I finally manually added the genre thru Sage. All metadata showed up as expected, so case closed, though a bit puzzled. During this time I had imported and verified another mp4 video, which looked ok with all the metadata showing up as expected.

But between this afternoon and evening, Sage no longer shows any metadata in those two videos.

I've made no changes and during this time I was not using Sage or anything else on that server. I verified both sets of files are in their expected place and Sage does see the mp4's in their folder.

I'm beginning to wonder that being isolated for so long I'm starting to see things. I know that sounds silly, but the large purple dragon in the corner has been giving me strange looks lately.

Any ideas?

That was a weird one

I had to rename both the file and title to something else in order for those videos to show all the metadata from their properties files.

I'm assuming there's some kind of corruption in a Sage file. If anyone knows which file(s) are suspect or ways to fix it, let me know. I'd like to be able to at least use the proper title.

have you tried renaming them back to what they were so Sage thinks it is completely new (add) instead of it trying to update it?

I've had to do that every once in awhile when the metadata isn't correct

1. rename
2. scan
3. check that metadata looks good
4. rename back to original
5. scan again
6. metadata should be good with the original name

It sounds like there must be a disconnect between wiz.bin and the properties files. When you make them into a “new” show they get scanned in again.

I had made copies with different filenames, so after finding the fix, I brought the originals back into Sage's view, but they're still broken.

Before I tried all that, I did 'round-trip' them, taking them out of Sage's view thru a scan cycle, which I agree, has also fixed things for me in the past.

It was funny to look at the view of the folder those files were in via Sage. When I moused over the folder, it will show the first n titles, numbered, in that folder. The first two showed just number (1., 2.) but no names. I'll try to get a screenshot to make that a little clearer.

As a side, I installed Sage on my laptop(why I never did that before, I'll never know ). I imported same folders as on my server, and both filenames, titles, and metadata showed up as expected.

I can try to provide clearer examples of what I saw if my rambling explanations seem clear as mud. Thanks for helping.

I re-imported the original files into Sage's view today, and as luck would have it, Sage behaved perfectly, showing all properties, including categories. But after several hours, both the originals' and copies' metadata disappeared. To be clear, the copies I'd made had been in there for a couple days already, thru several import scans and restarts, with metadata showing as expected.

I'm including some screenshots just to log what's going on, and make sure I'm not missing something obvious here (and to show off my very hip collection of videos ).

This is looking at the top level folder. _Bond 2 is highlighted. To the lower right should be titles, if provided, else the filename of the mp4.

Looking into the Bond 2 folder. To the right I would expect to see the genre and description. I'm selecting Octopussy for this example, though all videos in this folder are now exhibiting the same behavior.

Looking at the windows folder, along with the properties file of Octopussy. This one's a little fuzzy, so look at my attachments for the larger version (Bond 2 Octopussy properties file LARGE).

Video detail of Octopussy. It maps to the same folder from above, making sure I'm looking at the right file.

It's weird as I've imported other videos w/metadata since then, even adding them to the _film & _bond categories. Still there. And just to make sure Sage(or its creator) doesn't have something against bad spy flicks, I added another Bond video today and it's holding steady.

Are the any errors in the sagetv_*.txt log files when you navigate to these videos?

Nothing apparent. Here are a couple snippets when I would browse the Bond 2 folder. As chatty as Sage is, it doesn't have a lot to say about it.

And my subsequent Bond flick import is still there.
Thanks for helping out.

I've never used any plugins, but is there one where I can peer into it? Maybe I could move the wiz.bin to my laptop, where I have a little more resources w/out risking anything.

You mean peer into wiz.bin? I can shamelessly plug my standalone program that decompiles it into SQL (i.e. somewhat human readable)

I was thinking of something like BMT/CMT which deals with properties. I admit ignorance how any of these work. I'll take a closer look at your app, but it may be a little above my pay grade.
