HD-300 suddenly cannot play any video

My HD-300 connects to the server, and shows the UI normally.

Any playback, live or previously recorded H.264 from HDPVR or MPEG from HDHR, results in a black screen.

Playing back a show that was previously partially viewed, and saying resume, causes the time marker to jump to zero and not respond to FF.

When I play MPEG content from the SageTV server's Saget TV UI it works. When I play H.264 content from the SageTV server's Saget TV UI, it fails. The entire from the SageTV server's Saget TV UI closes. I'm not sure if that is related to the HD300 issue.

Any suggestions on what to check?

Have you restarted the server?

I've had this happen numerous times and power cycling the server (and the HD-300 for good measure) resolved the issue.

When this has happened to me, I had to hard power cycle the HD300. Actually remove the power plug, wait a few seconds, and plug it back it. That usually resolves the issue. I normally don't need to restart the server.

@jpwegas, Thanks! The power cycle by unplugging fixed the HD-300. I had powered it off with the remote, but clearly that is not sufficient.

I still have the problem with the UI on the server computer closing immediately if I play any H.264 video.

Does anyone know of a fix for that issue?

Post a log file from the server after the failed playback attempt. If you’re running the server as a service, you need sageclient_0.txt. Otherwise it’s sagetv_0.txt.

Sorry I figured you had tried unplugging it first. Power cycling with the remote only turns off the display but the extender is still running. The only way to turn off an extender is to unplug the power from it. I always start with that first and then cycle the server if that doesn't work first.

@wnjj, thanks for the tip. Server is a service, so here is the end of sageclient_0.txt. I started the client, tried to play the video, and it shut down. All within a minute or so, but the file is 2000 lines and 500K, so not ideal to post as Code here.

Here is a link to the log

I scanned through it, and nothing jumps out as an issue. I see the Weather plugin has some failures, but that probably isn't related.

Do you see any clues?

It looks like it crashes right after rendervideo step 1. Since it’s likely crashing within native code, can you see if there is an “hs_err_pid*” file there with an update time from the crash? Those are log files from when native code crashes the JVM. Post it if you have one.

Also, have you tried changing any of the video settings like decoder or renderer? Are your video drivers up to date?

I had exactly the same thing happen to me on Sunday. I reloaded the firmware using the "Configuration Reset Procedure" and everything is running now (except for comskip but that is related to h.264 i believe)

Sorry I've been out of town. Yes there is an hs_err_pid file.

Code:
#

There is more information in the file, but very low level - registers and stacks. Let me know if you need the whole file.

The details may be important and I know just enough to pick through them so go ahead with the whole thing.

I just updated the NVIDIA drivers. No change:

Code:
#
# A fatal error has been detected by the Java Runtime Environment:
#
# EXCEPTION_INT_DIVIDE_BY_ZERO (0xc0000094) at pc=0x6498f1dd, pid=3752, tid=0x00000a04

What settings should I try changing for render or decoder? I haven't touched them for years. Is there a known issue where a Windows Update or Java Update has interacted with the rendering or video display requiring changes in SageTV?
