I haven’t noticed any corrupt links on the forum itself. However, when the forum was down over the weekend I tried searching Google for any news about why it was down and most of the search results led to weird addresses and pop-up ads.

Thank you Narflex!! I was lost without the site and, like some others, in a bit of a panic.
It's wonderful to be back up. Like others, I am seeing some redirects but only in Chrome. In Firefox I have adblockers so all is well. |

Your right the issue is there on my desktop chrome I didn't see it earlier because js is disabled on FF my main desktop
According to https://sitecheck.sucuri.net and siteguarding.com it looks like there might be an issue with https://forums.sagetv.com/forums/cli...obal.js?v=3811 I downloaded the suspect file with curl decoded the obfuscated document.write code (which is suspicious in itself) and found a reference to serconmp.com Martin Last edited by emveepee; 12-03-2019 at 12:36 PM. |

I never got popups the first time but now get them on an iPad and PC.

OK, those should be removed now...but I'm not sure how much longer I'll be able to keep these forums up since I may need to do a full rebuild to clean things out and I don't really have the time for that....so hopefully you all can figure something out.

I think I found the problem now; and removed it...hopefully we will be good at this point.

looks good here too - I’ve never seen any pop ups, at least not to my knowledge.
Any idea how many terabytes to store the whole site?

in case we do, actually, have to “figure something out”, what would that entail, and when? As a non-programming kind of user, these forums are invaluable and absolutely necessary to me with regards to ANY chance of using Sage in the future,

Groups.io is used by a number of interest groups and is, from what I hear, easy to adm inister. The issue would be in transferring the archives, since the platforms are so different.

It doesn't look like groups.io can migrate data from vBulletin.
Ideally, if we wanted to migrate the site and its existing content to another CMS system, we would need a dump of the DB. If we just want a static copy of the site for historical purposes, that can be done easily but it takes up more space. And then we would still need a place for future discussions. --John |

The NextPVR forums recently converted from vbulletin to mybb and as a user it wasn't to bad. The big issues to consider
-losing attachment, it was way to slow to migrate them so sub opted not too. -internal link url's changed so if you get a hit on a post you can't quickly jump to referenced links. Martin |

More importantly, there has to be several people who are committed and able (access-wise) to maintain the site. Moving the forums to another platform and/or hosting service doesn't address this fundamental issue.

I hope someone comes around that can give us some direction on how to archive all this information, because we can't depend on Jeff to keep supporting us.
To clarify, we can't expect Jeff to continue to hold this up. Last edited by KryptoNyte; 12-04-2019 at 09:54 PM. |

I’d be willing to pay a yearly fee for this service, say $25 - same as Schedules Direct? Are there enough forum users at that price to make it worthwhile for someone to administer at present quality?

I'd also be willing to pay something annually. I don't have the knowledge to help in a more technical way.

I was getting some spammy site popping up when I'd log in here on both the phone and the PC. At first I thought my phone got hacked.

I would also pay yearly to keep the old forum archived (maybe even just frozen), and a new active forum beside it from scratch.

A way to archive it was suggested by Slugger using wget but I don't have a link but I'm sure a google search for slugger and wget on this site would find it unless it wasn't Slugger who suggested it of course. Anyway with this you could create your own archive.
