all channels work, but one?
Hi Everyone,
I searched the forum, but can't seem to find the answer to this. I have the WinTV PVR USB2. Everything was working fine for a long time, but a few weeks ago, suddenly channel 57 is all static. It works fine if I use the WinTV application software, and on a regular TV set, but not with Sage TV 2.0. None of my settings have changed. I'm using Comcast Verona (not digital on this line) cable. I tried downloading the Sage Recorder to "Auto Tune", but no luck. Any one else experience this, and maybe know of a fix? John |

Every channel but ONE
I'm having the same issue with channel 42 out here in Portland, Oregon. Except that I'm using the Hauppauge 250 PCI. What's weird is that I can receive 42 on my USB2 tuner via Sage... WinTV2000 works fine for both.
I know you have to hack the registry and stuff like that and since I'm not that smart I've put in a request for some help from Frey. If you're interested I can let you know what they tell me when they get back to me. |

Hi cmgrafmc,
At least it's nice to know I'm not crazy I did try to change the registry with a program someone posted here called FreqCopy, but it didn't work. I too put in a request, but nothing has been resolved as of yet. If you do figure it out, please post it here. I will do the same. John |

<wild guess>
Have you checked to see if somehow that channel go re-mapped to a channel you don't get on accident? For example 57 got remapped somehow to 128. That's the only thing I can think of that would cause something like that. </wild guess> |

Hi stanger89,
I also thought of that, but it still wasn't the case. I did notice that when I change from any channel to 57, the image of channel 57 will show for a split second clearly, then goes to static. I had to do this multiple times to notice it because it's so fast. So I know it's tuning, but Sage must be doing something odd afterwards. I'll bet anything it's something dumb, but I just can't isolate it yet. |

I have a similar issue with Channel 63 in Tulsa on Cox cable. The channel comes in, and audio is fine, and I can see the show, but it is definitely muddy. It has static in it. Regular TV plays that channel just fine.

For me, the picture shows up but has squiggly vertical lines spaced frequently down the picture and it's slightly snowy, but visible. There is no audio. Yet the USB2 tuner picks it up just fine. The only thing I can think is that somehow the PCI card is being subjected to some kind of interference (that happens to scew up the frequency for that one channel? I don't know). I have to trick Sage into using the USB2 tuner to record channel 42, which, is never easy so I usually give up.
The only thing I can think to do at this point is take the PCI card back and get another USB2, except I have to pony up an extra $50 AND it may be too late to take the other one back. Funny though, I had the same problem with Snapstream's program...I'm guessing it's a frequency issue that simply needs tweaking. I'm reluctant to start mucking with sensitive system files so I'm hoping Frey will walk me through it. Okay, off to run errands. I, too, am glad to know I'm not the only one with this problem. |

For myself, all channles work fine using WinTV and my USB PVR2. It sounds like the same is true for everyone else that posted too.

Not much to add, but I'm exhibiting the same problem, except for me it's channels 5, 10 and 12 (ironically, the ones I record the most). The latest USB2 drivers released a few days ago:
http://www.shspvr.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=5497 didn't resolve it. As with everyone else, it tunes fine with the WinTV software...

I have this same problem with an ATI e-home wonder. All channels work but channel 2 (CBS) which is complete static.
How does the freqcopy work? Will it work with an e-home? |

FeqCopy copies the registry values from the WinTV program to Window's default TV tuner settings. However, it still did not fix my problem.

Thanks carlgar,
I've tried changing the cables, and several different configurations, and always get the same result. Everything but channel 2. If I figure it out, I'll be sure to post. |

I get the same problem described here, except I get static on all channels except 2. This occurred after Adelphia remapped our channels a couple months back. So far Sage doesn't have a solution for me. I'm using the Hauppauge 250 MCE. WinTV2000 works perfectly fine. What's up Sage? We need a fix to this problem!

This solved my problem.
Well, after not being able to watch channel 57 using SageTV and Comcast for several months, my cable modem suddenly works intermittenly too.
Yet another call to Comcast. But, someone actually pinpointed the problem this time -- the signal was too strong! Who would have thought?! Here I always thought the signal might be too low. So, he pops on a little attenuator to the cable line that feeds into the modem, and boom -- it works perfectly! Now I'm intrigued. So, being the adventurous type, I take the attenuator off, put it before the splitter that feeds both the modem and my cable line for SageTV, and guess what? Yes, it works! It worked for me. Maybe your cable lines are too strong too! Thought I'd share my little secret. John |
