Harmony Remote Users - What IR receiver are you using?
Hi All, new to this forum and will be new to using the SageTv/WinTv-Pvr combo. I currently own a Harmony SST-659 remote that I would like to use with HTPC and would like some input on which IR receiver to use with this remote. Also, can I use the IR receiver that comes with the StreamZap remote with my Harmony? Thanks in advance.

I'm curious about this as well - does anyone have any suggestions?

You could probably teach the Harmony the codes from the StreamZap, but you'd be better served with a USB-UIRT, that should work much better with the Harmony remote. I use one at home with several universal remotes, and so far it's detected every remote I've used (I got the 56Khz version, just in case anything I use needs it).
You'll also have the option of a IR blaster as well, so that's a bonus if you're using sat or cable boxes, or can control your whole A/V system with Girder...

I tried setting up the Harmony for SageTv and Streamzap...SageTv I believe was selectable when setting up a "Watch PVR" activity and the Streamzap could be added as a compenent. However, when setting up the "Watch PVR" activity, the Streamzap was not listed as a choice for changing channels.
I ended up teaching the Harmony the Streamzap codes. A sort of lengthy process, but so far it's working with all the basic commands for TV/DVD viewing. |

Well, after teaching my Harmony the Streamzap codes, I find myself not really satisfied with the Streamzap's limited capabilities and only four programmable macros. I know I can use Girder along with the Streamzap, but I think I might be better off with getting the USB-UIRT and programming that. I'm already using an RS-232 cable to control my DCT2000. Does anyone know if there are any issues with using the USB-UIRT and controlling my cable box via RS-232?

Shouldn't be, since the UIRT is a usb product. Although you can use the UIRT to blast codes to the cable box (not sure if it's faster or slower than the serial connection though).
