r5000 on an Ubuntu VM with WINE?

Gave up a while ago trying to get my r5000s to work with sage docker and a windows VM and reverted to my Colossus tuners, which is mostly stable. Since I'm a glutton for punishment and can't let go, it occurred to me to try the r5000s in an Ubuntu environment using Wine. Not optimistic that it would even work and I've only ever messed with wine using the kids chromebooks and minecraft.

That said, before I get started, does anyone know of a reason this wouldn't work at all?

My guess is that this will not work. Wine is good at running usermode code, but I suspect that the R5000 would need device drivers and I don't think that is going to work under wine.
