Access Denied: network encoder cannot record to server drive?
Working on getting my r5000hd boxes to record from a windows VM. Sage can see them and change the channels correctly, but I get "failed to open file....access denied". Recording directories are network paths (not C:/...), encoder discovery is set to true. firewall on the Vm (where the r5000s are, not the server) is set to open ports per what I found in threads about network encoder setup here. Windows on both machines is logged in as the same local user. Recording directories are visible via windows explorer on any computer in the house.
What am I not thinking of? This really seems like a simple problem of permissions, but I can't figure it out.

Are you running Sage in service mode? If so, is it running under the same user that Windows is logged in as?

If I go to the folder inside the shared level, it shows Allow for all options for the user (which is also admin). If I go up a level to the Share itself (.ie, in windows explorer, right click on the share in the folder tree on the left under Network as opposed to the main window), Authenticated Users have Allow for everything but Full Control, and it won't let me change that.

Appears to be a windows issue, as I am also unable to copy/paste any file, sage related or not, to the recording directories from another computer, even though I am logged in as an admin on both machines. I can't find any other permissions to enable.

Are these shares on a windows machine?

Yes. I am baby stepping toward unraid, but for now would like to just get the r5000s setup on the Unraid windows VM and have the old sage server come find them as a network encoder.

There are two different sets of permissions involved here. There is the permissions for the Share itself, and there are the actual NTFS permissions for the files/folders. You'd need to ensure that the specific user has write (or ideally, full) access to both things.

On the original Windows 7 Sage server, when I go to the security tab of the properties window for either the folder, or the shared drive itself in the left pane, I can see that all four user names (authenticated users, SYSTEM, Adminstrators, Users) have Full Control. Is that what you mean?

I am out of ideas. Spent much of the day learning how to change ownership at both the drive level and folder level. Nothing allows me to write to the recording directories from another computer with any type of file, let alone the r5000s.

I think this had something to do with the fact that I had the drive itself shared as well as the sage folder. This was not the case when the issue began, but when I undid it, and rebooted a couple times, it started working. SO in other words, magic. Awesome. I look forward to it happening again and having no idea what to do.
Thanks to all
