I had done a complete system backup image back in early July. So I backed up the wiz.bin file and then I restored the system and copied the current wiz.bin into the restored system. The problem was still happening.
So this time I did a complete restore and did not copy the current wiz.bin, using the one that was from early July. I have been watching a couple of 1 hour shows where I had the problem and now there is no longer a pause/spinning circle with fast forwarding. I will continue to monitor and see if it happens again. I'm wondering if the wiz.bin file is the cause of the problem. |

If you think it could be, save the current one and then try reintroducing the original one. |

A most frustrating issue indeed!
@belleaudb did you say which video/audio playback choices you are using in sagetv? I'm using LAVFilter for video, and AC3 for audio. I have not yet tried going with cruddy microsoft or sagetv filters yet to see if the issue exists with those or not. I tend to want to be able to watch a show without throwing up

I've tried all combinations of decoders. I'm running windows 7 ultimate so I was using the Microsoft decoder for video with AC3 filter for audio. Once the spinning and hangs started I tried other decoders without resolution to the issue.
This does not happen on the HD300 in my other room. Just happening in the living room computer running sage. The pause/play/ffwd trick still works. I would think that if this was an HDD issue it would happen on the HD300. What has me stumped is that there have been NO hardware changes to cause this issue, it just started happening for no obvious reason. Win 7 ultimate Core i5 12GB memory 128GB SSD main drive 3TB SATA drive for media GeForce GTX750ti video card 75" 4K TV I might try swapping out video cards I have an AMD R7-240 I will try. |

Changing video card did not fix the issue so I reinstalled the GTX750ti
I've disabled virus scanning of the hdd with all recorded tv on it. Also disabled scanning of the SageTV folder and the EXE. I wonder if there is some sort of HDD read-ahead or caching causing the issue. As stated before it seems like something is "going to sleep". |

Hmmmm, could it be related to Sage performing a media scan? Perhaps try disabling automatic media scan?

I have switched rendering from EVR to VMR9 and am no longer experiencing the issue. Am now occasionally experiencing issues where after FFW, the video freezes while audio continues, then the video "speeds" up and syncs with audio, with normal playback.
So EVR seems to be connected to the issue. Using LAV decoder for MPEG2 and VC-1, and using Default for h.264 playback. Directshow for non-mpeg files. |

Hmm, good to know.
I know my old sage rig didnt have EVR, it was sage 6, XP hah. So it never had FFW issues, but it had a lot of other slight issues I will try out non-EVR as well and see if it helps, and if I can live with the other setting or not. The odd thing, is there is no hang if you pause first. So to me, that spells "a bug to fix". With pause, there is no spinner delay. Without pause, the spinner can last up to 10 seconds! (usually about 5)

Well I tried VMR9, and Overlay...
Overlay crashes the video, it just wont play, throws a black screen and 'could not playback' error. VMR9 doesn't appear to have the FFW-hang... BUT... video playback during commercials (if I want to watch them, like a movie promo, or tv show preview), does this horrific eye-twitch inducing frame flashing. Like it flashes a frame a few seconds back, or forward over what its showing, and its quite hellish. This was during a 1080i recording that had commercials from HD OTA. I put it back to EVR, as the delay on FFW is less of a problem than that frame flashing craziness.
