V9 Repair failure

I upgraded my V7 install to V9 and it all updated as expected. I started the service and then tried to run the SageTV.exe. After a while my anti-virus (Zone Alarm Extreme Security) flagged SageTVService.exe as malware and deleted it. I have since marked that application as a trusted application and tried a Reinstall via Control Panel (Windows 10 64-bit). However, when I try the reinstall it gets almost all the way through and then says "Failed to set security descriptor on object SagetTV, system error: -2147024894". After that the repair finishes and says "Repair Failed". It also says "0x80070643 - Fatal error during installation.". I tried this multiple times. I looked in the log file it links to and saw this

SageTV.exe runs fine but I really want to get the service working. The service executable does not exist as it was removed by the anti-virus.

I thought about totally uninstalling and then installing again but I wasn't sure what that would do to me as I had upgraded a V7 install.

Suggestions appreciated...

Run the Sagetv Installer and choose Repair instead of from Windows control panel

When you launch the installer in Windows, instead of double-clicking, try right-clicking and choosing "run as administrator" from the pop-up menu.

Sometimes this can make a difference if the installer runs into a permissions problem.

I thought I had tried that already. Either way when I tried it just now it repaired it completely and the service is now running. Thanks!

I hadn't been on the site for a long time and didn't know that the EPG was going away. I only figured it out after my EPG had "No Data" showing up everywhere and I finally came by the site for help. Now to find out that there was a solution in V9 I was very happy to sign up for Schedules Direct.

How is it working for everyone? I just signed up for the trial yesterday.

I think it has been mostly a positive experience, but I might be biased. As with many things, you'll probably find more posts about issues people ran into than success stories. Considering the number of people I am assuming are using Schedules Direct, the number people having significant problems with it is very small. Also from what I have seen, most of those issues have been resolved.

Unhappy My v9 Repair Attempt Also Failed

I have tried the repair about three times now. No matter what, I am getting the following error when my Windows 10 machine starts up (I was running v7 as a service).

Could not find JAR file.

An exception occurred in Java:
java.lang.unsupportedClassVersionError:sage/Sage : Unsupported major.minor version 51.0

Any idea what might be wrong?

What version of Java do you have installed?

I believe this occurs when there is a JRE folder under the sagetv folder. Rename it while sage is not running and try again.

That did the trick!
Wow that was really simple. I'm kind of surprised something like that was causing the issue.

Thanks for the quick response and effective help!
