Hauppauge MediaMVP as a Sage Client
OK.... Here's a radical thought for the wishlist.....
Is there a way to use the Hauppauge MediaMVP as a "set-top box" for a SageTV client? The only thing that kind of sucks about Sage is the need for a whole PC if I just want to watch shows on another TV (say the master bedroom). Obviously, by the specs of the MediaMVP, I can watch the Sage files right now, but I don't get the cool interface. Think about it..... what a cool concept..... you buy Sage software for the server and then a $100 MediaMVP (plus the $30 Sage Client, of course) and you've got a set-top box without having to pay $600 for a noisy PC. Regards, Stacy |

Do a search, this has been discussed a number of times. AFIAK there are plans for a MVP version of SageClient, but there's been no date given on when to expect it.
-edit Oh, and FWIW, you can already play Sage recordings on the MVP, you just don't get the Sage interface. |

I'm curious how the MVP client is progressing. Since I cannot have a "Clean" straight hook up (Sorry guys this whole using VIP might be workable but I'm not buying an old video card to make something work) I want to use a MVP or ShowCenter (The showcenter would be a better option) at the main TV as a client and have the server in my room. According to this interview they already have a client working.... Interview with Dan
So what is the holdup? I'll buy a client if there is one available...actually I would buy 3 and then that amount of Roslyn cards too so that the whole house can utilize this. It would be far cleaner than having a bunch of boxes and monitors and for all my techie friends would be a helluva thing to show off and get them to purchase. |

The short answer: its on indefinite hold.
There is some community interest in getting this to work through studio, but so far nothing has panned out. |

Well, if Dan wouldn't have said that there would be one 'down the road' we wouldn't all be (impatiently) waiting with baited breath.
Actually, I would like to know in general what Frey is working on at all. I find it hard to believe that Jeff is working on Studio 24/7 (considering it is free = non-revenue generating). Jason Last edited by JasonJoel; 07-19-2004 at 04:44 PM. |

I don't know that I would call it completely non revenue generating... once it is available, it may encourage others to purchase the product if they see it as a useful feature of the entire package. It is the same as other added features: makes it more attractive to potential buyers.

Ok, fair enough. But I doubt it would be considered viable as a 'revenue generating FEATURE' if it took 3-4 months of full-time programming to complete.
Hopefully Jeff is working on other things as well... Just my thoughts. Jason Quote:

... and I do know what you mean too: it is 'just an added feature' where an MVP client would be a new revenue generating _product_.

Eh, I'm just ansy for some new stuff to play with I guess.
But, in all seriousness, yes the MVP client would be a reveneue generating product as opposed to an included feature (in my view of how things would work). So I would think there would be more incentive for them to create something they can charge for, rather than an included feature. Of course that is assuming they can make a Media MVP client which they can charge for... Never know what the stipulations are for the Hauppauge SDK, Linux, etc... Jason P.S. Opus, you are on here as much as me. Scary. We both need help. |

I'm buying an MVP this week. Hopefully theres a cool beta or someone has written a client that will work. Or for now I will just have to watch already recorded episodes. The program itself is bitchen and works well. If theres one thing wrong I would say its interactivity issues. They have PVR350 support which is cool...pain in the ass to get a PVR350, and the picture from an xCard is incredible, but no OSD. If they squared that stuff away and had MVP support I could practically see most of my friends and a lot of my family getting this instead of Tivos...
