Rosyln card with PVR-250
How are the Rosyln "blackbird" cards faring these days?
I've heard everything from "Wow! They're great and half the price" to "what a piece of junk. My system locks up all the time. Don't use these cards" My point is that I've got a single PVR-250. My intention was to have a 250 and a 350, using the 350's video out so I wouldn't have to deal with this stupid de-interlacing/re-interlacing issue where everything looks like flim-flicker. Anyway after WONDERFUL help here in the forum (thanks to everyone!), I think I have found a decent point where I'm not sure the risks of using the 350 (since 90% of people gripe about it) outweigh the benefits. So, now I'm considering buying two more Rosyln cards to augment the 250 I have in the system now. Since I was going to pay $185 for a single 350 card, two Rosylns near the same price and it will bring me to a three-tuner system. Now.... if I do this, what should I expect? Will it be great and I'll consider myself as having found the deal of the century or will the Rosyln cards bring me heartache and I should just buy another 250 and be done with it? As always, I sincerely appreaciate the advice from everyone here! Best regards, Stacy |

What to expect with a Roslyn?
Hmm, welp, if you are using the Hauppauge Remote, the drivers for the Roslyn will trash that (some have gotten it to work again, others, including myself have not). Trashed my nVidia drivers on one machine, but works ok with an ATI on another with Win98SE. Worked ok on the first machine though with XP instead of 98SE. Installing the Roslyn on a good running machine (either 98SE or XP) with 2 - PVR 250's and a USB 2 seemed to lower the recording quality of those devices (no idea why). And, lastly, the quality and auto-brightness problem with the Roslyn (there is a fix posted in that thread now that seems to work). Now, this is ONLY my opinion, but I'd have to say even though the PVR-250's are more expensive... spend the extra bucks and get one (or more) of those and forget about the Roslyn cards (or wait until they get all the driver bugs straightend out for the Roslyn... you'll have to take a chance on that if you want to). I had NO recording quality problems with the others until I started messing with a Roslyn. Been going round in circles trying to straighten things out ever since (or just pull the thing out and everything works right again also). Welp, that's the report from my end... Maybe others have had better luck and will post there results here also. |

Yikes!
Think I'll stick with the 250 or 350. Thanks! |

I started off with just a PVR250 and later bought 2 Roslyn cards. I put one in the machine with the 250 and the other in a different machine for network encoding. After installin the first one, it did screy up the Hauppauge remote. But I luckily had an old logitech remote receiver laying around which I now use for remote functionality. Other than that, I haven't had any problems. Recording quality is every bit as good.
