Hauppauge HD PVR 2 and SageTV9 Linux (Debian)

Hello all... I was able to get a SageTV server up and running on Debian 8 64-bit using this great script:

https://forums.sagetv.com/forums/sho...d.php?p=585773

I just had to do the Java install manually.

I know this has come up before and I see some discussions about it, but are there specific steps that need to be taken to get SageTV to recognize the HD PVR 2 as a capture device during configuration? Or is that currently not possible without difficult modifications to the linux driver?

I was able to successfully test out the linux driver from Hauppauge's website using their test app.

Thank you very much.

Last time I checked the HDPVR 2 is not supported on Linux using the default V4L drivers.

You were able to get the Hauppauge test app to work? When I tried it crashed about 80% of the time after capturing a few seconds of input.

How stable was it for you?

Yeah, I was able to launch the app and capture about 30 seconds of video, but I didn't test it much more than that. So I can't say for sure how stable it is in the long run.

You could try this:
https://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=63823

I too have compiled that driver on PC and a Raspberry Pi. I found it to be wanting a little and getting bitstreamed (multichannel) audio looked like it required modifications in the code itself. You could either tune into it using a script or you can open an issue on GitHub, access the binary through JNI and add support to SageTV directly. The latter is what I was hoping to do, but it just doesn't feel like I'll have the time.

Thanks, I will look into that. I actually was thinking about abandoning the HD PVR 2 and getting one of those BM3000 encoders to use with my Linux install. The HD PVR 2 is working great on my SageTV Win7 install, but I would like to transition everything over to my Linux box. The BM3000 looks like a nifty device.

They are definitely very nice. The only big downside is they only capture stereo audio, but honestly it doesn't bother me.

I've stuck with the original HDPVR so far due to the config, stability, and audio issues on the HDPVR2. The HDPVR just works under Linux and Sage and I get multi-channel audio using the SPDIF input. The quality isn't quite the same but it works with minimal hassle.

I am about to setup an HDPVR I bought off ebay. Did you buy a new power supply? Any issues with the device dropping and recording blank video's as it used to when it first came out?

Thanks
Dave
