Looking for recommendations on recording folders/drives

With Beyond TV I found that if I had too much activity on my recording drive, that playback would stutter on my Link (extender) system. In particular this will happen if there are several recordings in progress and simultaneous playback of one of the recordings, while running Comskip jobs. The usual worst case is 5 or 6 recordings at once because of recordings overlapping at the top of the hour.

My solution was to divide the recordings between 2 fast hard drives, because in BTV you can specify a recording folder per recording job. I also limited Comskip to one instance at a time.

Oh, and then in the middle of the night I have a Windows script that moves all the recordings to a folder on my NAS. BTV has a process that detects new recordings and deleted recordings so it keeps up with moving recordings between folders, although you lose your watched status.

I know that Sage handles recording folders differently and you can't specify individual recording folders, so I'm looking for recommendations on how I should set things up. It seems like putting all recordings onto one drive (one folder) and running Comskip while also playing back is asking too much of one drive/controller.

Thanks for any suggestions.

You could setup bandwidth in settings and SageTV will record to separate drives when there are two or more recording drives and two or more recordings at the same time. The default is to record to the drive with the most space. The setting I'm talking about in options is "Detailed Setup==>General==>Video Recording Path Optimization Style".

Ah, thanks, I had missed that. I've also found some posts on moving the recording files to an Import folder and that will probably work as well.
