How to turn Sat rcvr on and off for sched recordings ?

Just got my USB-UIRT a few days ago - haven't had the time to play with it too much.

Here's what i want to do - Automatically switch on the SAT receiver (if it's off) before the sched recording, tune to the appropraite channel, record the prog and then switch the receiver off.

I'm guessing Sage's capabilities to control my Dish Network 301 receiver are limited to changing channels.

I am already using SageWake and i'm thinking a combination of SageWake and Girder might do the trick (at least partially).

Any hints/suggestions ?

I asked this question also and the response was why turn it off. So I have just decided to leave it on. So far no problems

why turn it off ?

The most important reason is that the receiver sits in the closet alongwith my pc and generates quite a bit of heat.

Even otherwise, it doesn't feel right to have the receiver on all the time.

this is a customization forum for discussion (mainly) of sage studio, and stv related discussion.

What kind of sat box do you have ... my RCA generantes no heat ... or very little. It's been turned on for over 3 years now ... on a UPS. I believe they are designed to be left on ... however to do what you want ... you'd have to create some sort of macro that would switch on the box first .... if that can even be done.

As said up above ... just leave the thing turned on.

JVC 301 (Dish Network)
I might have exaggerated the amount of heat but it does make the closet warm.

I am thinking on the lines of creating batch files that send events to Girder and invoke them from SageWake (on resume and suspend).

It's most likely your PC that's making the closet warm.

I'm pretty sure it's the receiver. It did it even when the pc was not there.

Closet are ok but keep mind you need some kind venting even for a closet due to there small space size which can build up heat with in few hours what come to mind is a Cloest Door Vent one on top one on bottom which have louver, ho be sure the top facing the rigth way so it draw heat out and need be at very top of the door where intake at very bottom of the door.

One thing you don't realize is, when you turn your receiver off, all that's turning off is the video output & audio output, the rest of the receiver is happliy running away. That's how it can get stream updates & stuff when it's turned off.

Like everybody else has said, why turn it off then .
