BTW, do you know what HDHR's are compatible withe Emby? I've been trying to figure that out.

Would be nice if SageTV could have "standard" (i.e. "Series Name - S01E01 - Episode Name") filenames for recordings rather than what we currently have now where the whole thing is crammed together with no spaces with the now less meaningful id tagged at the end. Especially since SageTV writes this metadata into the end of the file itself. I've looked at the renamers but it appears that they are all made to copy the files to a new location rather than renaming them in place.
It likely would not be hard to have the sagetv filename pattern more configurable. There is already an option to add season/episode, so, adding more options around that would not be hard.

As for HDHR... I can't use them... so I don't know much about them.

As for Plex usefulness... I recently setup 2 people on Plex and I ended up having to get them both signed up on plex pass, since, out of the box it did not support multiple users and the plex clients don't appear to be very useful without plex pass (or you pay per client, I think).

Looks like it has the same hardware limitations as Plex DVR. Looked in the logs and it's trying to contact my HDHR for channel lineup and such. Not going to work on my older HDHR's.

I haven't tried it myself, but Plucky's renamer should be able to rename the files in place if you put the destination folder the same as the source. Sage seems to handle that just fine, too, since I just tested a manual in place rename. It even cleaned up the old properties file and created a new one. Although, Plucky's renamer cleans those up itself after the rename.

Renaming is ok but you do lose some SageTV functionality for example say you have your favorite to keep 10 of the recordings if you rename them it will keep them all not just 10. I had some daily shows to only keep the latest 10 ... but since I was renaming to my surprise when I looked there were over 30 in a month ... since then I have stopped renaming the little bit of favorites I still have in SageTV.

I've never messed with min/max levels for favorites, but the way Sage handles imported media sounds like the correct way to do so. I wouldn't want someone to create a limited favorite for a missing season of a show I own and ripped, only to have Sage delete my rips because of the favorite.

Good to know, but yeah, I'm not concerned about that. Honestly, I didn't even realize there was a setting for that.

Put your rips in an imported folder and SageTV will not delete it even if the favorite for the show is set to only keep so many. At least that is how it worked for me with V7 anyway.

That's a good point. That's probably why I didn't rename my files in place when I set it up some time ago and instead move them to my import folders. So, this "issue" would be specific to renaming in place, as Taddeusz was apparently trying to do. But, he said the min/max stuff isn't used by him, so that's probably not an issue in his case..

But it is certainly true that the Sage forums are far friendlier than most online forums.

How much have you tried out in Emby? I lurke around the forums occasionally. While it looks promising, it also looks like they don't support time-shifting on currently-recording shows. This seems to suggest that support for time-shifting live TV is quite challenging. Yet, Tablo seems to be able to do it (I think), so it ought to be possible.
I keep saying I need to go back there and repost in the "proper" section. I guess I'm just used to the moderators here that will move your message to the proper forum and be very nice about it.

To be honest I haven't done anything to speak of in Emby since it won't show me any shows/recordings to "do" anything with.
