Setup question
I currently have SageTV running on my media PC in the living room. I also have another computer running in my closet that has a lot of storage. Is it possible to put a couple of cards in the storage box with Sage software and access them over the network using the media PC? Could I run sage client and SageTV on the PC?
Thanks, Dennis |

Overall yes, you could easily put your tuners in the "closet" PC and run a copy of SageTV on that. Then you'd need a copy of SageClient on the "media" PC to access the closet server. I'd recommend you run wired ethernet for the best performance.

Is there a problem with running the SageTV client (to access the recordings over the network) on the same machine that I am running a regular copy of SageTV (to access local recordings)?
Right now, I am using my 350's output for Sage. I do have the computer S-Video connected to a different TV input so I can access the computer screen. Could I use the 350 for the local copy of Sage and the computer output for the sageTV client? Thanks Dennis |

Should be able to.

Why not just get a copy of Sage Recorder, put it on the storage machine with the capture boards, and use them as network encoders? That would work better in my opinion, and be cheaper to boot (from what I understand, Recorder is licensed to the PC, not to each instance, so one copy could do several boards, and costs less than the client license).
Why use client and put the main sage on a PC in the closet, when you don't need all that extra functionality on the closet server machine?

Quote:
If you have networked tuners, you would run SageTVRecorder & then SageTV would control those instances of Recorder to make use of those tuners. Client doesn't control the tuners to make recordings; it just allows you to control scheduling & playback. - Andy

OK, I was unfamiliar with how SageTVRecorder worked with SageTV.
I didn't realize I could set up network encoders. Thanks for all of your help. You've saved me some money. Dennis |
