Many short questions (thx in advance for reading)

I'll try to keep all this brief, please let me know if i need more info in any of these spots...

background, i bought sagetv for my mom's kitchen, she loves it. first a psu problem, then hd, then... the pc crashes installing new os. so the hdd is dying, recovery tools pause on sectors for days at a time. so lets just say the orignal just caught fire and i'm starting over.

1) i fired up an old pc i had on hand to get her going asap. I installed sagetv 7, put on the 2x exes from the forum so it would take my sagetv 6 key. it said the key was ok. did a setup on the tuner *different tuner card from my previous setup-ati theater 650 pro*, it found the channels, but when i enter "use US, Canada, or XMLTV Guide Data with this source" and enter my zip it says "There was an error connecting to the SageTV Server..."

=> is this expected? the guide data was working for her a month ago, but i set it up much longer ago... what to do now?

2) If I select "Do Not Use Program Guide Data with this Source" and scan for channels, i see all the channels i want, and go to "Done with Channel Setup". then finish the setup. If i go to "TV" it says "There are no SageTV Recordings to display..."

=> I can't figure out how to watch live tv or make recordings, what did I do wrong.

3) I was thinking instead of putting the SageTV in the kitchen, i'd put it in the office and do an extender in the kitchen.

=> do i need 2 keys to run the client and server? we bought "SageTV Media Center for Windows with Placeshifter License Combo" which emailed us 1x SageTV License Key and 1x SageTV Media Extender License Key

=> what is a good extender? i was thinking one of those hdmi stick computers or something tiny like one of the ECS LIVA computers?

on top of everything I think my mom's tv's tuner isn't working... which is very odd that it died at the same time? so she's in the kitchen without tv and very unhappy so trying to get something asap and something good soon.

this post is very out of date since it took a week to be approved.

1) i messed around with it for quite a while and one of the times when i removed and added the source it didn't complain, and all is good.

2) ignore, sort of user error... i was hitting enter on TV, which takes you to the recordings, i didn't see that there was a "right arrow" to get the choices that i knew existed but couldn't find.

3) i've updated to sagetv 9, so forget the license questions

side note, not sure what changed, but the tv tuner seems to be working again as well

all my major stuff has been figured out, still wondering the best extender/client platform + experience.
