Server will no longer show on HD300 or SageTV Client
All of a sudden my Win 7 SageTV Server won't show up in either my HD300 or SageTV Client PC. I can enter the IP address manually in the SageTV Client and it works fine.
Did some searching here but can't find a fix. Can anyone help? Thanks much! -Chriscic |

Is your server on the same subnet as the client and HD300. If they are different subnets, it's likely the router is not forwarding multicast packets.

Thanks for responding.
Everything is on the same subnet. Things have been working fine for over a year and nothing has changed... other than Win 7 updates and I'm guessing one borked things. Just need to figure out how to fix. |

My guess is that if the Windows is hosting the Server, then the Windows firewall is blocking the UDP packets that SageTV would use for discovery. Try disabling the Windows firewall, temporarily, and see if that helps.

Disabling Windows Firewall on the server PC had no effect. Just strange. Maybe at some point I will uninstall and then reinstall Sage and see if that helps.

To try and cover all the bases...
Have you gotten a new home router/switch/etc? Have you done any firmware updates lately (router/wifi/??)? If you run the extender software on a laptop, can it find the server automatically? Are you running any other software on the server that could be trying to use the same port? Are you aware of anything else that upgraded lately? (OS? Java? other?) If you run netstat -a (I think this is the correct win 7 command) do you see sage listening on port 31100? Another option that might help... (http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/cports.html) again, I'm not a windows guy, but this may help id if the port is available. Also does this help - (http://serverfault.com/questions/265...indows-machine). This shows how to log all packets being dropped and may show if the firewall is still somehow dropping the packets when you try to connect. |

Thanks much for all the suggestions!
My HD300 won't find the server either (it used to just fine). I do let Java update frequently on the server. Probably a mistake; my guess would be that it's related to that because that and general Win 7 updates are all that would change. I ran that current port software on the server and it shows SageTV Service using port 31100 (per the attachment if you can see that. I notice there's no local address associated with it on that line, though I'm clueless as to if that's normal or not. When you say listen using netstat, do you mean on the client or the server? Thanks again. |

You did make sure the server feature is enabled on the server I assume?

Does SageTV use anything with SAMBA? Microsoft has borked SAMBA twice on Windows 10, maybe one of those changes was added to Windows 7?

I can only believe that your firewall is infact still blocking some how. In windows I seem to recall that you can disable both the outbound and inbound, and that it really fights to disable inbound. Unfortunately without a windows box in front of me, I would point you to try that again, and also reboot the system as well in case there is something there that hasn't taken effect. Searching a bit more.. I found some command line firewall commands. To Turn Off: Code:
NetSh Advfirewall set allprofiles state off Code:
NetSh Advfirewall set allrprofiles state on Code:
Netsh Advfirewall show allprofiles You might try the "turn off" command above on your server and see if you can connect. At a minimum it may help narrow it down to the firewall. http://www.windowsnetworking.com/kba...mmandLine.html |

No matter what I do it says "Firewall Policy BlockInbound, AllOutbound"
So maybe it is still blocking... how can I change that? I ran the Netsh command to turn off (I had already turned off via GUI) and either way that policy line stays the same. P.S. Yes the server is turned on : ) |

Figured I'd check in and say, still not great ideas. Though I noticed my HD300 wont work with my new Sage v9 build... but that may just be me. I'll see if I can come up with some other troubleshooting ideas. Otherwise, I may ping back some thoughts to see if I have any other ideas.
I cant remember if I have asked, do you have/have you ever used wireshark? When I was doing some internal troubleshooting, it was helpful to have that do some captures to review the logs. That said, its not great as explaining how to capture and use it a bit complex. Happy Holidays! |
