Flash for Sage UI & Apps
Has anyone explored utilizing Macromedia Flash for UI enhancement or apps to extend the Sage capabilities?
Seems like this might be interesting avenue to explore given the number of Flash dev's out there and the superior UI capabilities this environment provides. I know you can call the Flash Active X control as part of any windows application so it should be pretty straight forward. -mtnwing |

Check this thread re: flash
It doesn't look like flash will be supported anytime soon. It is a proprietary format that will probably include licensing fees when incorperated into a product. Animated gifs - probably. Specific mpeg2 files as backgrounds - probably. Transition effects between menus - current concensus is yes. That's all I've gleaned. Hopefully someone with studio could say more. |

Refer to the Macromedia Flash Player Eula for official details on the Macromedia position. I don't believe that it's fee based to incorporate Flash into windows programs as long as you "link" to the standard browser plugin in the standard directory as installed by the standard Flash plugin browser plugin installer to render content. Their are tons of windows screen saver based windows programs that do this with no apparent license fee for desktop pc usage. Licensing appears to come in if you commercially distribute the player or require the player sdk or use it on a device. Again refer to the Eula for official Macromedia position.
It's also worth noting that the file format has been published and is available for software vendor's to support swf creation, even though the it's owned by Macromedia. http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/we...846775#3040907 http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/we...hreadid=848896 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ming_library |

There is a flash-like animation library for java available here:
http://jgoodies.com/freeware/animation/index.html This is under the BSD license so it's free and clear from fees. I actually played around with this some time ago and it was quite functional, but it's been a long, long time so I really can't say how well it might apply to this discussion. -Watter |
