Lost Series Schedule

One day, I just lost all of the TV series I had scheduled for recording.

Everything else works fine, but there are no show's scheduled

1. Where is this information kept, so I can restore the file from backup?

2. Any idea why this would disappear spontaneously, so I can prevent it from happening again?

Thanks!

I believe that info should be in the Wiz.Bin file as when I do a new install of sagetv they usually tell you just copy over your wiz.bin file.

Thing is if you updated to V9 of Sagetv and then went back to version 7 the Wiz.bin will be useless unless you saved a copy before you tried version 9 as I thought Version 9 changes it somehow but could be wrong.

When this has happened to me it's been caused by a corrupt wiz.bin file. Sage keeps one backup, but sometimes the backup ends up corrupted, too. The last time this happened all of my wiz.bin backups for the previous month were corrupt. Recording metadata is embedded in the recordings now, so it wasn't that disruptive to restore a month-old backup, but I did need to re-add recently-created favorites.

I recently had a corrupted wiz.bin and lost my favorites as well. Had to recreate them again. It was about the time I was doing some work on my server and was restarting it after updates. It may have been a forced restart before the Sagetv service had a chance to complete it's start up media scan that corrupted it. Just a guess.

Check your EPG or tuners. If your EPG is not updating and you have a lot of "No Data" place holders your series won't have anything to record.

You can also check that your tuners are all OK.

I think there is a sticky in the EPG area of the forum that may help, if the guide data is not up to date.

It could also be a corrupt WIZ.BIN but messing with the wiz.bin is a last resort.

So update here, I am as frustrated as I've ever been with SageTV (user since 2008).

Everytime I restart the SageTV service, I loose all my series settings and I have to recreate them. I've tried just not restarting the service, but I have found that I really have to about every month, or it starts getting quite slow.

So I checked my my wiz.bin, and it's stuck with a last modified date in August, about when this problem happened. I tried making sure its properties are full control for everyone, doesn't help.

I tried renaming it, and surprise, sage starts BUT DOESN'T RECREATE IT???

I was really under the impression that it would be recreated if it was missing, or at the very least, SageTV wouldn't work without it, but it did.

Now I am really confused. Does anyone have any ideas how I can cure my SageTV install from it's case of amnesia every time I restart it?

Where the heck are the series settings supposed to be stored, and why isn't it working.

Sorry to rant, and thanks in advance for everyone's help.

Just guessing but it seems either permissions or your sage settings and wiz are elsewhere than where you are looking. What OS and version are you running. Do you have UAC disabled. You could check if your properties file is also old as perhaps that is being read from elsewhere or blocked.

Also try enabling debug and posting logs ..

Thanks for the quick reply!

I am running Windows 7 Ultimate with SageTV 7.1.9

I searched my entire C: drive (the only one on this computer) and found just that the only other Wiz.bin files were in backups of my sage directory. Just to be safe, I changed their permissions to full control. Where are the sagetv settings for specifying the location of wiz.bin?

What is UAC and how do I check it?

The properties file is showing today's date.

How do I enable debug and get the logs?

A few thoughts...

If you are using Win 7 64 bit it is possible that some of SageTV ended up in the Win 7 Virtual Store located....

c:\users\<username>\Appdata\local\Virtual Store\Program Files\

Check there. It's typically a hidden location so you may need to show hidden system files/folders and you need Admin rights to access this location (which in turn could explain Sage not writing to it).

UAC = User Account Control and blocks access for applications. To test if this is affecting you then you could turn it OFF temporarily and test SageTV.

Try this link....

Hope it helps or someone else has ideas for you.

I am on Win 7 Ultimate SP1, 32-bit

Checked c:\users\<username>\Appdata\local\Virtual Store\Program Files\ and there is no sign of sage there.

UAC was set to never notify.

Any other ideas?

From the sounds of your problem, this really does seem like a UAC problem OR, you have multiple SageTV installations and you are looking at the wrong one

I would install ProcessMon
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/...rnals/bb896645

And I think there is an option in there to track Read and Write operations. So, I would STOP sagetv, then start ProcessMom and have it monitor for file Read/Writes and then Start SageTV and look for Wiz.bin in the File list. This should tell you when it's being read/write and more importantly, WHERE it is. The one think that I don't know is if Windows will mask the real path to where the UAC copy exists.

I've used this a few times to track down where things are being written to on Windows... it can be quite busy, since it will show all read/write operations, for everything.

Did you turn UAC off and reboot?
If you don't want to disable UAC, and you are running SageTV as a service, make sure the account used for the service has admin privileges.

Another "fix" is to install it somewhere other than the "C:\Program Files" directory. "C:\SageTV" is fine.
