Any reason I should get Xp Pro instead of XP home

Hey everyone,
I've been running 98se, but I quickly decided that it just wasn't stable enough for an "always on" computer. Now I have decided to upgrade to xp, and I was just wondering if there are any features in XP pro that would be useful in a dedicated sage box.

P.S. This is just a standalone box, not a server. It shouldn't need any advanced networking features.

The only feature I have seen that would even get to consider XP pro is the Dynamic disks and Volumes. However, from I have read I doubt if I would even want to use them. It is my understanding that if 1 disk goes back then you would lose the entire volume. I am quite satisfied with XP home.

FYI - dynamic disks are NOT a feature!

The ability to join a domain and host RDP are the 2 main features. I've noticed a few other things missing, too, but can't remember them. I always use Pro.

File and Printer Sharing is crippled in XP Home, you can only create all or nothing shares, not read-only or per-user shares.

Actually, that's not entirely true. You can create per-user shares with XP Home when you boot up in Safe Mode. If it can do that, then someone should be able to tweak XP to do it (that's one feature I wish I had with XP Home)....

Why this is that way.... I don't know. XP Pro does have IIS to host web sites and/or test ones to be uploaded to a server before sending them.

You're saying you can create XP Pro/2000-ish shares in XP Home if you boot to Safe mode? That's interesting.

I found it by accident. When I booted into Safe Mode and brought up Sharing, there all the options were.

I once used encryption on Win2000. When the OS needed to be reinstalled, it was unable to decrypt the files.

To be honest, if I could get XPPro, I would. If it works for you, I'm happy for you. Seriously.

I just know that encryption, like DRM, can be a detriment if there's no backup.
