how to "clone" a hd300?

ie just cloning the setup/gui/interface, not making a hd301 or anything...

I have my main HD300 and a secondary hd300 that I manually duplicated the setup (ie diamond,sagemymovies,loaded plugins,etc) and manually doing that works fine and all...
but I forgot all that I did manually and besides, in theory I should just be able to copy the sageclient properties file from a setup one, and the new one should be an exact copy of the setup one? shouldn't it? it not like anything is actually stored on the units? is there?
but it isn't... it is close... but not exact... ie mymovies is missing, etc...
so what else is there that needs to be copied? where does ADM store its menu rearrangeings?(is that a real word? how do you describe what ADM does?)

Hey there SWL, if you haven't already found them again, the properties files for your extenders are here;

c:\Program Files (x86)\SageTV\SageTV\clients

The filename is based on the extenders MAC address, so determine the MAC addresses of both devices, let's call the good config the source client and the other config the target client. Shutdown the Sage UI and Sage service. Delete the target's properties files if they exist, careful not to delete the source files instead. Then copy the source's file and simply rename it with the MAC address of the target client.

Restart the sage service.

Oh, I already got this part... It gets me like 90% of the way there.. But there are a bunch of little things, mostly related to diamond I think? But I am not 100% sure about that as I have been using diamond for so long I have forgotten what's "normal" sagetv UI....

I don't remember diamond storing any settings anywhere other than the client properties file, so that should still do it for you.

the big thing was the mymovies not showing up on the main menu, in order to get SMM to show up you need to do the whole edit the menu thingy using Diamond's built in ADM type thingy and copy the the MyMovies menu item from the stock UI and paste it into the Diamond UI (I think the process was something like that, been years since I did it last)
does diamond use the real ADM? I think that was the name of the plug in that used to let you move menu items around before we got the killer new UI's (ie Diamond & Phoenix) or did they make their own? wonder if it stores something somewhere?

fwiw, the HD300 in question is only used occasionally, like when the weather is nice outside and I want to set up my El-cheapo backyard theater

so kind of hard to test or verify stuff currently as it has been rainy out lately and now the vicious killer mosquitoes are swarming...

Not sure what to tell you. Diamond and ADM are both quite obsolete, and were merged together and greatly improved into Gemstone. As far as I can remember, ADM did store it's configuration in the .properties file, so it SHOULD be migrating with you. It does, I believe, offer the ability to export and import the menu configuration, so you can run an export on the source extender, and then import those settings back into the new extender.

Under Gemstone options you can export your settings from the old hd300 then on the new hd300 use the import option.

Try the Export - Import idea but I have found that it still doesn't catch everything. For some reason some settings are not captured by this.
