Still try solve audio problem as to what we think is cause by AC-3 where getting off wall things happing ever now then make it look like bad recording.
Ever now then with
The wrong time index
The wrong video bitrate
Something both time index and video bitrate
Sometime even the wrong audio format

This what hauppauge software/hardware engineer said about one my SageTV recoding clips as I upload more for him to review as it slowing as first one I sent that was real goof but play just fine in VLC.
What he suspect is happening is that the encoder is detecting some change in the input, in this particular case probably right near the end of the recording, and causing the encoder to stop and restart, as it would if AC-3 audio changed to PCM, or the video format changed. Then it restarts itself when the audio/video format change is stable, but you have a “break” in the timeline, and comparing the original start time to the new end time, shows a very small elapsed time.

I think what he ref to is that AC-3 has both 2.0 and 5.1 which on reg Network channels unlike the Movie Channel which doesn't have commercial breaks my be the root problem.

So next week all my recoding I'm going disable HDMI AC-3 input and just rec as Stereo AAC and see this still happing.

As for HD300 Bill I still haven't fig what it deal is with LiveTV I been try min diff thing Bill and it is so far a no Go with LiveTV Mode, but with pre-recorder playing back is good to go with good clips and no reboot.
So far only PC ver of SageTV Client works in LiveTV mode.

So far after all day saturday may 17, 2015 with it in LiveTV mode with HD300 switching channel I didn't see any problem with it, so the downside maybe is you can't use Dolby Digital Audio with the reg network channel because of commercial breaks are in Dolby Digital 2.0 and where the show it self is in Dolby Digital 5.1 and some how it goof up unlike with the premium movie channel which are used lee in Dolby Digital 5.1 or just Dolby Digital 2.0 and shouldn't cause the record to goof up I think.

As it stand for now for LiveTV mode to work with HD300 you must switch it over to Linear PCM/LPCM Audio on your set-top box then it should be 100% more reliable that way so I keep mess with it for the rest week to see how thing goes hope lee all goes well and solve one problem for some people .

I well re-test with Dolby Digital Audio with the Optical Audio just see is there any diff as this maybe causes by my HDMI Splitter but then again I think patja said he wasn't using a HDMI Splitter as he has an older set-top which didn't support HDCP junk it could be HDMI related .

Interesting. Assuming this is the same issue for the HDPVR2, it didn't matter if I used hdmi or spdif, or if I set the cable box to surround or stereo on either input. I literally tested every permutation I could.

I have 1st and 2nd gen model of the HD-PVR 2 so I have to make time to look at them again as well if I can get time for it as I need return Bill back his HD300 next month when I got funds to do so, But from what I recall LiveTV mode didn't work at all no matter what I was used as it was only stereo at the time and HDMI didn't work because of HDCP and there wasn't any HDMI splitter at time so lot has change over years in driver so very possible that could fix and didn't let me know as they most of thought every just move to MCE OPS I guest they wrong about to as MS hasn't even update MCE as it still vase on Vista code with few small fix's for Windows 7 to in sure compatibility.
If you still have one Evil_Attorney see if it work.

Bill
I went back to daily reboots.

I still have the occasional glitchy recording where playback starts smooth, then somewhere in the first 5 minutes the video goes to a stop-motion effect, with the audio playing smoothly. This lasts for 3 - 5 minutes and then playback for the rest of the recording is fine. I just suffer through it.

We never watch live tv so haven't messed around with testing it again.

Do you still have this file check the audio/video with MediaInfo that usely what cause the stop-motion effect
Here one
If you look at the time index you see it a miles off which should 59min
Also the Audio should have been AC3 Steam.

After switching LPCM I end up with problem the very next day and day after the where the clip goof up wasn't rec the last 20 min so wait for it get done try view the a channel that was no go so check over server everything look fine even try test Showbiz and that was still a no go and it wasn't in tell unplug the power to HDMI splitter and reset it then it start working again so sat it a side as I believe HDMI splitter is the problem I now have on Hopper in my room which has Component + SPDIF with DD5.1 so hope less this works out better.

On Plus Side the HD300 and LiveTV can work with HDMI just not Dolby Digital 5.1.
Any way this really getting odd with HD300 LiveTV and Component + SPDIF with DD5.1 enable works wow that shocking what the heck .

If all gose well there maybe a fix for upcoming driver for both HD-PVR 2 and Colossus 2 that may solve some audio problem.

Internal change log:

1.6.33210

- Clamp "VideoTSBitrate" to MAX_TSMUX_BITRATE (currently 16000000)
Possible fix for high bitrate encodings that get the wrong timing?
Can be changed via dword:"MaxTSMuxBitrate" reg value
- Add extra checking for bad min/max bitrates
- Also clamp "VBRMin" to be symetric to clapmed "VBRMax" when VBRMax is > MAX_VIDEO_BITRATE
- Fix: logoData[MAX_LOGO_WIDTH*MAX_LOGO_HEIGHT*BYTE_PER_PIXEL] changed to logoData[MAX_LOGO_SIZE*BYTE_PER_PIXEL] so we dont waste 3.2MB of memory (reduces memory from 3840000 to 480000 bytes)

1.6.33182

- Try to make KSPROPERTY_HAUP_AUDIO_STATUS,
ColossusProp::static_getAudStatus() more reliable
- Fix in cases where 8416 chip not used (no SPDIF), uses 7842 derived values
- add AUDIO_CS_TYPE_UNAVAILABLE to EncoderIF.h to allow user to know if reported status really has an error, or just not available, for example directly after source changes while waiting for polling update
