Unresolved recording conflicts
Every now and then, SageTV notifies me of unresolved recording conflicts. When I pull up the list of conflicts, the show in question is NOT a favorite. Record Options for the show sometimes gives me the options to manually record it or add it as a favorite as if it's a plain old show. Sometimes, however, it claims that the show IS a favorite. In this case, Adjust Favorite Options takes me to an unrelated favorite. For example, right now SageTV is complaining that it can't record TN Legislative Coverage for me, which I've never asked it to, and seems to think this is because it's covered under the favorite of This Old House. Choosing to ALWAYS IGNORE conflicts between these favorites leaves the shows as conflicted. From previous experience, this conflict will disappear on its own in a few hours.
My wild guess is that there's a problem with the EPG data, that perhaps TN Legislative Coverage is airing at the same time previously marked for an episode of This Old House, and SageTV somehow thinks it still needs to record something on that channel at that time. A future EPG update or reshuffling of favorite recordings probably clears things up. Anyway, as I mentioned before this problem has always resolved itself after a while, so I'm not really asking for help. Just wondering if anyone else has ever had this happen. |

This sounds like it could be caused by intelligent recording.
If it was bad EPG data then the non-favorites that are being recorded would be marked as favorites or they would be recorded and when the EPG updated, the recorded meta data would change to reflect the correct title/non-favorite status. If the EPG data updated and the wrong schedule recording was renamed/updated to a non-favorite then SageTV wouldn't record it. If you had intelligent recording enabled (under Detailed Setup > General) then SageTV will try to guess what you want to watch and will actively record non-favorite TV shows. I'm not sure if SageTV displays intelligent recordings as conflicts, you would think they wouldn't but I don't use the feature as it never worked that well for me.

As far as I know, this just happens right after an EPG update but before all the new data has been fully processed by the scheduler. Some EPG data for an airing that used to be a favorite is now for some other show. After the scheduler's work completes, the airings should all be handled correctly.

I'm stretching the limits of my memory recall, but I'm pretty sure the issue the OP is talking about and the possible cause Opus mentioned is the reason I set Sage to only schedule shows 7 days in advance. I believe I had been getting conflicts and got tired of the false alarms, so I went from 14 days to 7 days and the issue went away.

I first blamed Intelligent Recording, but it doesn't seem to cause reported conflicts with favorites and it certainly doesn't identify shows it picks as bold favorites. IR works pretty well for me, recording lots of shows that I like and allowing me to use half the favorites I might otherwise, but I still get irked when I mark 30 airings of a show as Don't Like but IR still thinks it should record new episodes.
I think the problem is that I do have the EPG set for 14 days, which requires at least twice as much schedule processing time as the default 7, and SageTV gets confused during processing. Edit: and thanks for all the replies! Last edited by troycheek; 02-22-2015 at 06:10 PM. Reason: forgot to thank everybody |
