How best to debug IR issues
So, I have 3 HDPVR, connected to 3 Xfinity RNG-150N boxes. The 3 boxes are being controlled by 2 USB-UIRT. 2 boxes are connected to USB-UIRT1 via a splitter and direct connect patch cords. The 3rd box is controlled via the IR emitter on USB-UIRT2. Mostly this works, but sometimes (like 1 out of every 5-6 recordings) the channel doesn't change reliably. So, I'll get a popup like I've hit the "Info" button. A couple of times I've had the channel go to an invalid channel, like 77177, and sometimes I'm just on the wrong channel or the previous channel.
My question is, what's the best way to try and debug this stupid stuff? Before I was on the Xfinity X1 platform, I was using RNG-110 connected via FW, and I never had any channel changing snafus. I'm suspecting it's an issue on the little popup page that controls my IR transmit settings, but I'm not sure how all the settings affect things, so I'm not sure what to change and what to look for when I do change them. Any insights would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Mark |

I'm not sure if this will help, but I had some problems with my Dish receiver being finicky so I got STB Keep Alive and it let me "read" the exact codes my Dish remote was sending.
I also made sure my USB-UIRT was sending an "OK" command prior to every channel change so the Dish receiver was "awake" and listening for the next codes that told it which channel to tune to. Likewise, I used the STB Keep Alive utility to send an "OK" command to my Dish receiver every 4 hours or so to keep it from ever going to sleep. With this arrangement, I find that my Dish receiver mis-tunes, at most, maybe one or two programs a year. Prior to doing these sorts of things, mis-tunings were a constant problem. Long story short, I had to experiment to have the USB-UIRT send a command to get my receiver's attention, and then send the correct channel change number with an appropriate delay between each digit.
