Suddenly broken view, log says timeout is cause. How to fix?

I have the following view:

Its been working for years. I have not touched my Sage setup, other than updates when I see them, or done anything other than routine things to the physical computer Sage runs on in months. Suddenly, today this view is broken in Gemstone.

The view works fine in BMT. If I click it in BMT it opens and displays the shows in the order of last watched as it always has. However, in Gemstone, it shows a list of all shows alphabetically. It says "TV All by Viewed Recently" (the display name I gave to this view) on the top left correctly but the log says its loading "gemstone.source.allTV" view.

In trying to fix this today, I have restarted Sage, restarted the server, the basic stuff. Then I have removed the view from my VFS folder, restarted then shut it down, put the vfs back and started Sage back up again. Nothing seems to work.

I do not have caching on for this view, as I want it to refresh on every load. So, when I click the menu item that launches this view it loads with the spinny circle for a little while (I have over 28TBs of TV episodes, about 577 TV series, so its not fast), then it normally loads the view. The difference I see now, is it does the spinny circle, then the circle disappears but all I see is my background for a few seconds (which is new), then it loads the view broken (gemstone.source.allTV instead of by recently viewed).

Given that behavior and the Hang error in the log file (below), I am wondering if my TV library just got the point today that its too big or something?

Edit: This is happening on 2 HD300s, but I just installed SageTV client on a PC and this view is working fine. So now I am extremely confused as to why this is happening. I should also add, about 2 months ago, I did experiment and then setup Plex. Plex server is on the same PC as SageTV. I have disabled Plex though and rebooted, no change.

Thanks for all the details but I think I still need more.

Go into the View, press Options, select View Options then View Configuration Summary.

This will display the summary but also write it to the Gemstone.log file. Look for "DescribeView" in the log and post that section of the log so I know what settings you have in the view.

I think you might need more info, so just let me know whatever I can do, because it seems this is the info for "gemstone.source.allTV", which is what is getting loaded instead of "TV All by Viewed Recently", possibly due to the "Hang Detected" from the SageTV log?

Are the first set of Describe View logs immediately after you went into the Flow that uses "TV All by Viewed Recently" view? Seems odd if so as that Flow is not using it.

I created the same View and was able to point a Flow at it and it works and the Describe View show it correctly.

I suggest you try to create a new Flow, pick that View again and see what happens.

Yes, well I tried it probably a dozen times to try and get the right DescribeView to show up. I tried loading other views and coming back to the broken one, I tried restarting and trying to load the view, I tried turning off caching and loading the view, every time the describeview was for "gemstone.source.allTV".

That aside, I think I am starting to narrow things down. I dusted off a HD200 I had bought with the HD300s which didn't work right (HDMI was broken) and the view works on that (over composite). I also installed SageTV client on another Windows PC and the view works in that too.

It seems the problem is only on the HD300. So can I ask, what are the things that that would effect just the HD300 and nothing else in Gemstone? I see a bunch of properties files in my userdata\Gemstone directory are those specific to each client?

I'm sorry, I am so rusty at troubleshooting SageTV, it really has been working great for years so I haven't had to do it in a while. I will try and recreate the flow for this view. I have to remember how to do that and get back to you.

I use a HD300 daily. I will try your view but my guess is the other settings in the Flow are causing issues with the view....but without the describe view that's a guess.

You should just create a new flow...set it to that view without any other settings and try that and report back.

Sorry for the delayed reply, it became a busy week.

Ok, so I recreated the flow and that didn't help but it got me thinking. There was absolutely no way the flow itself could be bad, as it hasn't changed in years. The only way the flow itself could be bad was if the configs for the HD300s got corrupted somehow. Bizarre yes, but I have seen similar things happen before.

So I imported my last Gemstone backup (from 2012, damn I have to manually backup more often) into my HD300 and the view is fixed! Restored the current backup I just took and the view is broken again.

The problem is, I did some things I don't remember in 2013 when I got rid of my HTPCs and picked up the HD client units, and I guess I didn't make a manual backup. What I do have are weekly backups of my SageTV directory going back a year thanks to Second Copy.

So, again I have to apologize for how rusty I am with Sage trouble shooting and ask, can you tell me what files does the manual backup get its data from? What I mean is, what are the individual HD300 client Gemstone config files I could restore to put my flows back to before the problem happened?

If you mean the import inside Gemstone of a previous Full Export solved the problem then the export takes specific Gemstone settings in...

- clients folder - the specific client properties file - any setting inside that file starting with Gemstone and ADM

- Menus - "SageTV\userdata\Gemstone" look for menus.properties

As well....some settings are stored inside the servers "Sage.properties" file...not many so I would only restore an old server properties file as a last resort as it certainly can affect other things not Gemstone related.
