What does it take for Sage to realize that files no longer exist?

I am setting up Sage on my laptop to take away on vacation. I am using a 3TB external drive for media. I connected the external drive and set up the folders as Sage Video Library Folders and scanned. Sage added all of the files. But something seems wrong with my external hard drive so I am going to replace it. I disconnected the external hard drive and removed the folders from the Video Library via Detail Setup. I have restarted Sage a few times and rescanned for media several times.

All of the Movies that I had imported are gone, but all of the TV shows still show up. What do I have to do for Sage to realize that they are gone and remove them from the TV shows? When I browse the detail on the recordings they point to a drive that doesn't exist any more. They give an error when you try to play the files but the files are not being deleted from the database.

I can manually delete them by deleting all shows of each show title but that takes a while.

Or does it just take Sage a few hours to realize that the files are gone, despite file scans?

Sage must see they're actually gone by being able to see the same directory with the file missing. So if the external drive was E:\tv\ then Sage must see an E:\tv\ directory that is empty during a media scan. Then and only then will it consider the files gone and update wiz.bin.

By the same directory do you mean all of the way down the tree structure, or just the same drive?

The files are in e:\videos\Kids' shows\Dora the Explorer, etc.

So does it have to see the lowest level directory and see that it is empty?

It might be easier to write a groovy script to just delete of the files from wiz.bin.

Or how would I even just nuke the wiz.bin and have it start over from scratch? Or is that dangerous?

The entire path, down to server name, if applicable, must be identical. I ran into this just recently and it took a while to figure out how to fix the duplicates, but it worked.

1. Shut down SageTV (service also if ran as Service)
2. Delete both wiz.bin and wiz.bak (move to another location works also)
3. Start up SageTV

SageTV will create a wiz.bin file.
You will lose any Favorites you have set and your watch/archived status on everything.
If that is acceptable, then nuking your wiz.bin file would be fine.

Perfect - this is a temporary install on a laptop so that the family can watch media while we are away from home. There are no tuners so no faves, and we never used watched status anyhow.

Not trying to be smart.

Been seeing this thread rise to top for a while.

But.

If the end goal is to watch media?
"can watch media while we are away from home"

VLC ?
XBMC ?

Sage is the tops for TV.
Sage is ok for other media. (XBMC being the king in IMHO).
But as I guy who once took my ReplayTV on vacation (many, many years ago) I am curious why SageTV warrants a trip.

I could use any media player to play the files, but they are so much better organized in Sage. I populated. 3TB external hard rive with the files, so I figured why not install SageTV on the laptop as the front end? I expected it to be pretty simple but I had issues with the hard drive that made it trickier.

We are now on our third day in St Barths and the Sage system is coming in handy to keep the kids occupied at night, especially since I can just hook it into a big screen TV at our villa. I also brought along an extender but I haven't used it yet.

The amount of geek gear that I brought along on this trip is actually kind of silly.

Edit - and regarding XBMC vs Sage - the family is totally used to Sage, no point in introducing another UI. And the media is partially TV recordings from Sage and partially ripped DVDs/BRs.
