Need my system running for 2 month

Hey guys,

I'm about to go on a 2 month vaccation and i need to make sure that my Sage PC is going to run for that time since no one will be able to superwise it.

I will be able to check into the computer via pcanywhere, but if the system freezes it freezes. No one there to press the reset button....

I have a PVR-250 and PVR-350. Do you guys think i should disactivate the pvr-350 output and the pvr-350 osd output while i'm gone? Is that gonna help at all?

Any other suggestion so my system will keep running?

Thanks a lot

If you're looking for a way to reboot your system if there is, indeed, a system freeze, check out the APC PowerSwitch.. Think of it as an IP-based power strip, with the ability to turn off/on each port using a web browser. Okay, this is probably overkill, but it's still a cool idea

Since that is currently the weakest link I would deactivate the tv output and osd on your PVR350. I just rebooted my Sage TV server with 2-PVR250s in it. Uptime was 85 days, 11 hours, 45 minutes. It has been up since the final came out. It also had all but the very first beta installed on it too.

Gerry,

What OS are you running? And was the reboot necessary ... or just because of some change you were making? 85 days in an MS OS is very good -- even for a dedicated box.

Gerry,

A P.S. to my previous post. I presume you're running with a UPS -- how large a capacity is it? Just for grins could you post the specifics of your server configuration?

I suggestion you use SageTV Client after all you only need know IP Address and be faster depend on internet speed you have on both ends but depend how on you setup and type internet you have setup.
You should be look at Server Remote Product like Remote Reboot maybe this is a option better you External Server Remote Control like what you fine at http://www.kvm-switches-online.com/ take look at SV1110IPEXT I know there not cheap.
Don't forget set your bios to have automatic boot up when power on if the power ever gose out.

Two month vacation...must be nice. You may need to take another month off when you get back just to watch everything sage has recorded for you while you were gone.

Sorry for the delayed answers. Windows XP SP1a. All the latest updates from Windows Updates EXCEPT device drivers. I almost lalways stick to the manufaturer for those updates. nForce2 chipset, ASUS A7N8X Deluxe mb. Actually no UPS but power is pretty good out here. Been meaning to pick one up. Athlon XP2600+ 1GB RAM and 2 x250GB SATA Raid 1 for all the video data. OD on PATA 120GB drive. All drives are Seagates. GeForce FX5200 w/128MB going to Panasonic 42" RPLCD with RGB connection. 1280 x 720 resolution with nVidia drivers 61.71. SPDIF out to Sony DD/DTS receiver/amp. Being doing most of the viewing from the Sage client PC. Weekend viewing on the server.

No UPS -- and 85 days uptime! You definitely have a good utility company. Was the reboot after 85 days because something was acting up? ... or just because you were changing something (or just felt like rebooting)??

I had an issue on the client which turned out to be a client problem, not a server issue. Plus I looked at the uptime and figured why not. Wasn't trying to get into the World Book of Records.
