No upcoming recordings?

Recording devices are there and the guide has data.... Anyone else with this issue this morning?

I have seen this in the past, and several others have also. Take a look at what recordings you still have that were recorded after the last time you knew it was working.
I'll bet that somewhere in there is a bad file. That is what has been the case for several of us that saw the same thing. Try to play each one of the files, they may look OK in the directory, but might not be playable.

Another way, probably quicker and easier, is to shut down SageTV and the service if you are running that, move all those recordings since you knew it was good (maybe even go back as many days before that as you have your "look ahead" set to). Move them to a directory outside of any SageTV media folders that SageTV might look at.

Reboot the machine and see if upcoming recordings reappear. If they do, and I'm guessing they will, then you can go through those recordings you moved outside of SageTV one by one until you find the culprit.

I saw it when I added the Olympics as a favorite... there were far too many shows in too many channels and it took a very long time for Sage to figure out conflicts etc... So what I did was limit to certain channels. So check the last favorite you added.

That might be it! Let me try, deleting the other files are not working and we have years of favorites still in our lists.

Exclamation

No luck. I deleted all the files that were recored yesterday. Cleaned up my Favorites list. Still nothing. Inputs are fine and guide has data. There should be 5 shows recording tonight. It just stopped after midnight. Where are the log files?

WAF = 0

I have all night to figure this out while I am banished to the basement.

Did you reboot after fixing your favorites? Reboot and wait till it fully loads. Anytime I make a change that might fix a problem I always reboot to for a scan of the guide favorites etc...

You obviously have a different problem than others have had when there were no recordings. You will probably have to start with a new wiz.bin file.... since you are no where now I do not see a problem. Do you have a backup of the wiz.bin prior to having this problem?

I stopped the service, deleted Wiz.bin and then started back up. Didn't fix anything.

Also stopped the service and installed the latest version of java. No change.

Is there a way to blow away the guide data DB so I can force a new download? Thinking that might be part of the issue.

Did you delete the wiz.bak also? if not it will simply recreate the wiz.bin from the wiz.bak.

Cool

Bingo! Deleting those two files did the trick. Setting up a regular backup schedule on that file.

Thanks for the help!

These scripts are great to backup.

I just posted this in another thread about favs not showing up in the recording schedule. I actually thought I was posting to this thread.

--

I don't recall the name of it, but isn't there an add-on that enables you to disable/enable favorites?
Maybe instead of deleting them and having to add them back later someone having this trouble could see if just disabling them with this add-on would have the same effect as deleting the offending favorite. It would make it much easier than manually deleting/re-adding favorites.

Of course a definitive answer on why it is happening would also be great.

Also, to those of you who have gone the route of starting with a fresh wiz.bin and that working for a while and then the problem reappearing...... I still posit that there is a bad recording somewhere in your system. When SageTV first starts with a new wiz.bin everything is fine, but eventually it screws up. Now that could be just when SageTV does a rescan of your library, or maybe when you actually try to play that video.

I would suggest leaving the wiz.bin alone (I am still using a wiz.bin that started back in like version 4 of SageTV), shut down SageTV/Service and renaming your recordings folders and recreating new folders in the same path(s) with the original name. This would definitely get any offending recording out of SageTV's view.
Then see how long SageTV works properly. If it continues to work then you could start merging some of the old recordings back into the *new* folders a few at a time until you find the offending file(s).
I would think that files older than a week or so from the time the problem first cropped up should be fine to add back en-mass. Then add back the rest a few at a time, wait and see if the problem returns.

I know I sound like an old drum here, but on at least 3 occasions in the past this exact same thing has happened to me, and each time it was due to a bum recording. At least one of those played fine, but would kill the scheduling of recordings.

I just had this problem which caused a bit of a panic. I tried deleting recording from the last couple of days but that didn't help. I then restored my WHS 2011 backup versions of wiz.bin and sage.properties files from a few days ago and that seemed to work.

edit - I think my problem was caused by a Favorite ("2014 FIFA World Cup") with about 1000 airings - see this thread http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/show...941#post564941
