Getting a video to display with correct format (aspect ratio)
I have some files recorded OTA from the HD-Homerun. They are MPEG2. When opening the file in VideoRedo, it reports "Encoding size 704 x 480". Windows explorer file properties also reports the resolution as 704 x 480.
When I display the Recording Detail in SageTV, the format is listed as "MPEG2-PS (MPEG2-Video 4:3 480i@29.97fps). SageTV displays this video as 4:3 aspect ratio, with bars on the left and right. The video is actually using the 16:9 format. When displayed at 4:3, round circles are compressed into vertical ovals. Why does SageTV think this video is 4:3 format, when the aspect ratio should be 16:9? How can I cause SageTV to display this video in widescreen format? I.E. how does the SageTV and/or the display device distinguish between widescreen and 4:3 content given a 480i rate?
