Youtube not working

I have a v7 system and YouTube isn't working on either my HD100 or my HD300 frontends. It is also not working on my Windows clients. Whenever I try to view a video (and I've tried to select a variety of videos), I get the message:
"The media download failed.

Error: The requested media file was not found on the server".

However, I know the video I am selecting is out there, because I was looking at it on my laptop, and decided to watch it larger on my flat-screen, but it can't be downloaded.

What's broken and needs to be fixed?

Thanks,

Mark

It depends on what you are watching. Are you watching music videos? Can you download the video to your local machine from Youtube?

Here is my guess - I have found that some music videos now have some sort of copy protection on them that prevents downloading them. SageTV, I think, is attempting to download the video to display it. Since they cannot be downloaded to your local machine, SageTV cannot play it. The content owners want you to watch it where they can show you the advertisements.

Actually, it's not music videos. I was trying to watch some Science Olympiad Scrambler videos. My son is involved in Scrambler, and I have become sort of an unofficial advisor, so I'm trying to get some ideas. I thought it might be good if we could all watch on the big screen together.

If you use the PlayOn plugin, it loads an older version of Sage (which has Youtube issues).

Actually the Playon Plugin works fine. The limitation is that I haven't figured out how to search for particular videos using Playon.

The Playon plugin does indeed work fine and Youtube works fine through it. My point was that with the Playon plugin installed, an obsolete Sage stv version is loaded that has issues with playing Youtube through Sage. In order to install the latest Sage stv update, you must uninstall Playon and then update Sage. Reinstalling the Playon plugin will return you to the obsolete Sage stv.

Basically, you can't use the Playon plugin and use the native Youtube playback in Sage. However, even without the Playon plugin installed, you still have access to Playon through the "Online/Online Services" menu item.

Do you use Chrome? You can add the YouTube Options extension and it shows the download stream options under the play window. Cool extention, darkens the view page, hides unwanted elements, y'know stuff.https://spoi.com/software/yto/
