live transcoding of DTS to AC3

I'm using a HD200 extender with SageTV. I love the zero noise in the living room. Unfortunately my soundsystem does not support DTS only AC3 and more and more Blu-Ray disk are missing AC3. I know AC3-filter can do a live transcoding of DTS to AC3 ... so using a PC with SageTV client would be an option - but a fanless HTPC would'nt be cheap. Can something similar be done with the HD200 oder HD300 extender ?

The HD300 has native DTS support, no transcoding needed. For the HD200, you would need to first rip your bluray movies into a new format, such as a mp4 or mkv and then use a program to transcode the DTS track and add in a AC3 track. I actually still use 2 HD200s so I do this for all my bluray movies and I use MakeMKV to turn the bluray into a MKV and then run the MKV through PopCorn MKV AudioConverter (a free download).

I'm not aware of a way to have your SageTV server convert the audio track for your HD200 on the fly.

The post HERE is for Linux, but if you follow the thread there is a claim that works for Windows as well, however you're saying at some point that the audio looses richness and is not the same as converting the the DTS to DD offline and therefore you decided to keep converting the audio track separately...

If I recall in SageTV properties there are settings to override the transcoding properties as in the end all these on the fly transcoding solutions (SageTV inclusive) are using ffmpeg under the hood, so it is just a matter of settings.

I had no luck with
Code:
miniclient/disabled_audio_codecs=DTS;dts
but
Code:
miniclient/disabled_audio_codecs=DTS-MA;dts-ma
was working.

Unfortunately video was transcoded as well and my SageTV server didn't managed to generate a smooth playback.

Anyway - thanks a lot for this hint !

... maybee someone has seen a hardware device capable of transcoding from DTS to AC3 - the only ones I was able to find are 5.1 decoders capable to transcoding DTA/AC3 to 6-channel analoge
