Sage Server with no video card
Is there a way to run a Windows XP boc with Sage Server so that the Sage Server will not require a video card?
I want to access the EPG and the recordings from a client machine with Sage Client. I already do this part, and this works well for me. I want to have the PVR250 and the Sage Server running on a small box with minimal power requirements, and minimal fan noise. By removing the video card, I can get the system down to less than 50 Watts. When I add in the video card (GF2 MX200), the system is close to 100 Watts. (measured at the wall) Not a big deal, but extra heat requires more fan noise, and an extra $5.00 per month to the utility company for no reason. Anybody try to run Sage Server without a video card? |

You will probably need a VC to install/configure Sage and the os.
If you set Sage to start in the Windows tray, I don't see a problem running w/o a video card (though I've never tried it). |

How low-level can you get without using a video card? For example, could you make settings in the BIOS without a video card? My Sage computer is inconvenient to make settings to. The monitor is a standard definition TV. It's hard to see to be able to make settings. My Sage computer does have a video card, but it would be great if I could configure it across the network. I've never tried this type of thing before. Just what can I do remotely?

I don't believe your computer will post without a video card.

I didn't think it would POST either. Maybe certian BIOS's would allow to bypass a specific POST test failure. If you do get it to work let us know.
The other obvious thing is to do some research and find a cheap video card that is very low wattage. The info must be out there somewhere. I know I looked up Wattage usage for CPU's and modern videocards when I was building my new HTPC. /justme |

i dont think there is a computer that'll post without a video card.. or a keyboard.
those 2 things are critical to a working computer.. its like being blind, deaf, and dumb... (as in not being able to speak) |

Almost any BIOS will allow you to configure the keyboard to be optional.

If it's that important, get a mobo w/ onboard video...

Usually there are options for VGA Keyboard All All but Keyboard All but VGA I'm kind of guessing here and going from memory, I haven't had cause to use that option much though. |
