'Gravity' - anyone?

saw it in 3D...lovely. However, is this a timeless film of substance and merit, ala '2001', or a cutting-edge, effects-laden marvel that will give way to better films using the new shooting techniques?
I left thinking 'ooooo - that was groovy', which quickly led to picking apart all the holes in the script (it's a sci-fi - we're supposed to do that), which led to thinking Cate Blanchett is still the actress to beat this year, which led to me wondering how 'Machete Kills' will be...
So, is 'Gravity' something special, or just pretty?

It was a whole lot better than I expected. But there were some really nice views of Sandra Bullock, so that might make me biased.

You rarely see movies hyped as much - so I was worried for setting myself up for a disappointment - but the movie is great.

Took the whole family to the best movie theater in the area - those don't come along very often.

I waited for the 3D Blu-Ray, Awesome filming and scenery.
But what a disappointing movie. Only 90min.

They drop you into the action and then end it when it's over.
I think that's one movie that deserved a little fluff and there was none.

I don't go to the theater anymore since HT's have been around, but that movie in 3D iMax had to have been awesome.

I think it was one of those 'better on the big screen' movies. It's was pretty and the VT60 plasma did it's job, but I just for life of me can't figure what all the hype is about. It must have looked amazing on Imax. I'm a huge SciFi nut and I watched Elysium the next day, now that is a good Sci Fi movie people should be raving about.

+1, the list could get pretty long.

However, I'm hoping that this will get more people into Sci Fi, besides the odd hit the genre has taken a beating the last few years, especially since the Sci Fi channel became SyFy.... Blech

Actually isn't it the wrestling channel now or have they canceled that?

except it's not really sci-fi, it's Speed meets Skylab falling to earth. but for what they set out to do, a visual CGI blitz, they succeeded extremely well.

a lot of work went into that 5 years of development (and why Cuarón deserved the director Oscar IMO). the behind the scenes of the Bot & Dolly robot camera and the previz lightbox in which they placed clooney & bullock are worth a watch.

...just pretty IMHO. The character development didn't click for me and I could not get past the gaping holes in about every freakin' scene.
The visual effects? ...stunning.
