ATI Remote Wonder use with SageTV to change channels

I am building my first PVR, so please be patient. I have the Hauppauge 250MCE. I also have an ATI Remote Wonder. Is it possible to use my ATI Remote wonder as the device that will automatically change the channel on the cable box when SageTV tells the Haupauge to start encoding a stream?

The one area I am unclear on is the IR Receiver stuff - can the ATI RW be used for this purpose or do I need additional hardware?

you need additional hardware you need to either have a cable box with a serial port or use a USB UIRT to change the channels on the cable box

you can use the remote wonder though as a remote for sage

see I use one for my client

Thanks kny. I'm honestly trying to keep costs down, so what do you recommend as the best frugal option?

this is what I found to be the cheapiest is the .............
but everyone seems to like the USB UIRT

does the back of your cable box have a serial port or low speed port?

the cheapiest if that is not available is an Actisys IR-200L
they sell them at Sage but they are cheapier at Snapstream's site

http://store.snapstream.com/irblcapa.html

I would seriously though consider the USB UIRT
it can control up to three boxes and you can use any remote control with it

even a standard TV remote

they are newer and more supported with more users using them so you will have more people to help you get it setup

but thats just my opinion

Cable In
Bypass for RF Bypass module

Also, the front has a USB port, but I don't know if it is active.

sounds like you need an IR Blaster like we talked about
unless you ask your cable company if they have other cable boxes available

doubt it would work but you could try and say you need a cable box like the motorola DCT because you need a cable box with a serial port for TiVo

if your provider is charter they offer them (motorola DCT)
I just looked up your box and it had a list of supported boxes they use
