saving XML file of recordings?

I just did a search for "save XML file", but nothing came up.
I am backing up my system info, recordings, etc. I remember doing this once a while back (possibly BMT or Sage Webserver), but can't remember how it's done....backing up your recording info that is.
Anyone? It's the method to create a XML file that I was looking for I think
thanks
