Sage 2.0.19 unstable with 350

Hi just an FYI for those of you in a similar situation. I was running RC3 2.0 with no problems on an athlon/sis motherboard with a Hauppauge 350 for TV out and tuning.

After installing the final release of SageTV 2.0.19 I would get intermittent lock ups which required a reboot. These lockups seem to happen when viewing live tv but sometimes when changing channels or viewing recorded media. I tried everything possible including a fresh install of XP, drivers, java, etc but had the same results. I recently wiped the pc again installed XP and am now running stable again on RC3.

I have seen the other threads with maybe the default storage location causing problems or maybe hauppage drivers and an enabled UI but either way I can't fix those issues and have gone back to something stable (RC3). This is just a heads up for anyone else having issues.

That sounds like my problem, and I'm also running a 350. In another thread, I describe diagnosing it as a memory leak using utilities that monitor physical RAM usage.

I don't have a copy of the previous release, though, and tech support won't give it out (so I gather from yet a third thread describing a similar issue.)

How can I get a copy of the older beta versions?

Ok, I downloaded that and attempted to install it and completely messed everything up.

I tried to follow the instructions from the Hauppauge 'how to update core drivers, then other drivers, then the application' page, but I don't know what this file mentioned above is supposed to replace. Do I direct windows to it during the re-install?

Could someone post a newbie-level explaination of how to install that new file?

Assuming that you currently have a good driver installation:
The instructions to update are:
To install it, run hcwclear.exe first and select the maximum removal level. Then reboot your computer and select the new driver for each card when prompted. Restart your computer when you're done installing the drivers.

If you do not currently have a good driver installation you should probably do a complete install using the drivers from either the SHS or Hauppauge sites.

I had a perfectly working SAGE 2.0 Server with 2 clients for a couple of weeks. Nice and stable. I installed my Hauppauge 350 and had nothing but lockups, missing parts of tapings and the cliens would just hang after 15-20 minutes of playing a show... Hauppauge 350 is dead to me!

follower were you trying to use TVout? While I have not upgraded to 2.0 yet, I believe all of the problems I have seen with the 350 are related to the TVout use. I believe some code is writing into memory that it should not be and causing a lot of random type issues.

Yep. This thing has to pass the spouse test, so it's gotta be all (video and audio) through the TV.

This is with vieiwing TV/OSD over my video card. I bought the PVR350 from Sage to test the beta (back then not promising) and waited to the release. I opened my production box and added the 350 (decided not to change over to the 350 OSD until I had confirmed a fully stable system.

It was fine for a week with only minor freezes. Sage Client started to freeze, sometimes for good, sometimes for a minute and resume. I opened an issue with Frey. They gave me some things to try that I already tried from the boards (reinstall latest java, network blocking setting, upgrade the hauppauge drivers from the SAGE HARDWARE board to no avail. Dropped them back to the ones posted on the Hauppauge site... still nothing.

I finally got frustrated and removed the card. I have been up and running on the server without a problem on any client for a week now...
