I don't have that option. only component+spdif, composite, HDMI then s-video.

EDIT: I should add that the HD-PVR2 shows up in Sage as "Hauppauge Siena Video Capture", But is listed in DM as Hauppauge HD-PVR2 (model 157xxx).

Very strange but after two reboots and reloading the reg, I am able to add the PVR2 now. Now lets see ho it works, I will report back in a little while.

Yes, "composite" should take the stereo signal from the RCA connectors if you have them connected.

Right, but htem I loose the HD from the component? That doesnt make any sense. Any way I finally got it installed but it will not play video. I am going through a controlled reboot cycle and start up of everything. Lets see if that works.

The 1512's breakout dongle for component cables are for HD (three of them) and stereo (two more). So if you select component, it should only use the analog stereo RCA inputs from the component dongle.

So here is what I have found out thus far. Installing the PVR2 with an existing PVR may not workout so well. In order to get video playback, I had remove the PVR from the source list, then add it back after the PVR2 was working. Many reboots required to get that far.

So right now I have an HD-PVR and an HD-PVR2 up and running with component video and SPDIF. The PVR2 does not have audio at all, stereo or SPDIF. THe PQ of the PVR2 is terible. Very pixelated at times. This from wiuth in the VM. THe HD-PVR works just fine, with it's normal issues that is.

I am now going to try it in my 2008R2 OS and see how that goes, I don't expect to mucha t this point. Very disappointed in this. Very disapointed.

I noticed that the HDPVR 2 driver did not come with Hauppauge program that "clears out" all other Hauppauge drivers. But it's possible that your other drivers are interfering somehow. You may want to try using that program to clear out all drivers, rebooting, installing the 1512 drivers, and then only connecting the 1512.

Sorry about this.

Cross-post (I know, don't you hate that?)

Newegg lists a 1512 and a 1519

1512
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16815116086

1519
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16815116087

Any idea what the difference is between those?

And can anyone confirm they do come with WinTV? Looking to use these in a sports environment for real time record from hdmi camera with pause and playback for coaching purposes.

Thanks

As rule anytime you install new driver for the HD-PVR 2 you must unplug the power to reset the hardware firmware
If you have Windows Vista/7 just used the device manager to uninstall them be sure to tell it to del the file and reboot be sure the you unplug the power to HD-PVR 2.

I was able to play around a little more today and made some progress. First, I was able to fix the interlacing issues. Apparently the recording quality wasn't set at the highest and was causing this issue.

Second, both units now seem to stop recording when they should. Not sure why they finally started to work, but they did.

Third, (and this is bad), I have determined that the 1512s won't record sound via optical on certain channels on Directv. I noticed it on CBS while watching golf, on ESPN 2 watching college basketball, and on FX watching a movie.

Right now, the 1512 could work ok for stereo recording, but surround sound seems to have problems.

Dose the same problem show up under Showbiz or WinTV 7 or even both?.

I was able to try it out again yesterday with the included Arcsoft Showbiz program. For audio options, it only provided HDMI or RCA as options (no SPDIF). Neither of those options provided any surround sound. It said something like 2 channel AAC, I think. In contrast, my first gen HDPVR showed an optical audio option and could record in what it said was Dolby Digital AC3 5.1, I believe.

that's not good, is it? with the HDMI, does your audio receiver indicate 5.1 signal from HDPVR files?

Yes, that's correct, except that the Toslink does not even show up as an option that is selectable (but my original HDPVR does show this as an option in Arcsoft Showbiz.

Hauppauge's tech support finally returned my email about this. Instead of having me try certain things, they want me to install remote control software so they can play around with my computer at some point. Since this is my Sage server, I'm obviously not too keen about them poking around when I'm not there. It sure sounds like they did not do extensive testing with this outside of with game consoles (it seems like Hauppauge is mostly catering to gamers who want to record segments of their games as they play).

Maybe Hauppauge will get it right with the HD PVR Model 3.
