5.1 issue

I was watching the superbowl last night and did not have 5.1. Any suggestions on what decoder I should be using for OTA TV?

Thanks!

This can depend on all sorts of things, including TV/AVR setup, etc. I had this issue once and it was because the AVR was on the wrong setting. If this was on an extender then the really isn't a relevant decoder setting within SageTV as the file will have contained the DD5.1 audio.

What was the signal path? Extender to AVR to TV? How is your extender connected to the AVR - via HDMI?

Thanks... This is my head unit. OTA signal coming in --> HDMI out to HK2600 --> HDMI out to TV. Sage is missing 5.1, while I can launch Plex and hear 5.1 with the appropriate file. Is there a particular decoder that should be used for these files?

If using the ArcSoft audio decoder outside of an arcsoft product, there are some registry settings that have to be set to set the audio output format. I'm not familiar with what they are though. You'll probably have to search over at AVSForum or doom9.org to get an answer. That said, I see no reason to use the Arcsoft decoder, and I much prefer ffdshow for audio. I actually have ffdshow completely decode the audio for me, and output to my receiver in 32-bit PCM, in whatever number of channels the source had (this allows my receiver to do the speaker expansion as necessary). Basically, I have ffdshow's mixer disabled, and set to output as 32-bit integer. I then use ReClock as the audio renderer, which helps to smooth video.

should be there listed under MPEG2 Audio Decoder Filter and HD Audio Decoder Filter. You may have to restart sage for it to detect that it is there. it'll be called 'ffdshow Audio Decoder'.

Fuzzy, I installed ffdshow with the guidelines I found on miss remote site. Still does not show up in sage under the headings you suggest.

I am win 7 x64.....

Did you by chance install the 64-bit version of ffdshow? Sage is 32-bit only, and can't use 64-bit filters. I usually download direct from here:
http://ffdshow-tryout.sourceforge.net/download.php

lol, of course I installed the x64 version. I will give it a try as soon as I can. Thanks!

Update: 32bit installed and shows up under the decoder list now. I will check audio tonight. Thanks Fuzzy!
