DTS sound decoder for hd200s?
Hi all,
What's the best way to deal with content that has audio (DTS... any other common ones?) that isn't supported by the HD200 units? Sure, i can transcode at the server and play the new file, but is there a better, seamless, possibly on-the-fly method for dealing with this? esp. important now that more and more media is this way... If it matters, I've got a nice samsung soundbar and a samsung 7100 series TV that play DTS no problem themselves, if i pull the media using DLNA, but i'd rather use sage! Is there any way to get sage to, rather than attempting to decode the DTS, pass it along to the TV? thanks!

A PC client with the requisite codecs (e.g. via ffdshow), hooked directly to the TV/receiver should work just fine.

oh my, no, I'm not going to be building clients when i have a nice, elegant, small hd200 affixed to the back of my TV...
most of the reason i went with sage in the first place (over beyond) was the streamers... Eric

The HD200 is perfectly capable of passing DTS to an external decoder. You have took set it to I think Bitstream in the settings.

The tricky bit is finding something to decode DTS other than an AVR, at least something cheaper than an AVR.
Now supposedly Sage can transcode it on the fly here's a thread about it, might be worth a try before spending money on a decoder/avr. http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34142 |

Awesome, thanks for reminding me about this setting. Upgraded my AVR months ago to get HDMI switching, but have continued to add an AC3 track purely out of habit.
