Disable metadata fetch for new media
Is there a setting where I can disable a fetch/match for metadata on media files? When I browse for stored media, I'd like to be able to see the entire filename in the list.

You may need to describe what you want and where in a little more detail.
The Flows in Gemstone use the Title of the media file and not the file name in the flow lists. Are you using BMT for metadata? k |

In Gemstone (Default menus), when I select Videos > Folder > Criminal Minds > resulting media file list - I see the attached image.
Almost all the files in the list have made some sort of match with some online database I assume, and the flow or listing is showing me the "Title" result from that database. The second file in the list in the attached image is actually showing the exact filename (without extension) and season/episode number added. In the attached flow, what is causing the displayed name difference between, say, item numbers 1 and number 2 in the list? |

Not to my knowledge. Plugin "Batch Metadata Tools - Web Interface" is not one of my installed plugins.

Are these imported videos or recordings that have been changed to imported videos? You are correct in that the Title comes from the metadata which is in the Sage database. In the video folder view Gemstone enhances the view by using a Phoenix title lookup which will get the name from a properties file, Sage recording info or will reach out to tvdb for a lookup...if I recall correctly. I am not sure this is optional. The title lookup obviously failed for the 1 item...without using BMT I am not sure what else could be done to resolve other than create properties files but that's a lot of work and BMT can assist in managing that process.
Perhaps someone else can suggest a solution as I use the flows exclusively and do not use the folder view. k |

All media that Sage records eventually gets altered in some fashion, and then re-adopted by Sage at some point.
These are video files that originated from recorded shows in Sage, however, using non-Sage software the files have been stripped of their commercials, filename altered, and encoded to mp4, so there is a disconnect with Sage's original metadata (there is no metadata in any of these files). I'm also see this occuring with other media files like movies that have been recorded, encoded and renamed. There might be media files in a series, like Back to Future 1, 2, 3, etc and the filename reflects the 1, 2, 3 and so forth, but nearly all of the files end up getting associated with just one of the Back to Future movies, so there are, say, 3 files in the folder list that look identical, but are obviously different shows. The preference would be to NOT abandon the desired filenames in Windows, as these filenames will be effective beyond Sage's life. Should I simply be viewing the media in different way in Gemstone so that the original filename is shown? Is there a method for that? I really don't want any metadata fetched for any files. |

You could add an enhancement request on the issues site and we could add an option to use file name for the title. I am not sure how many users would want that and I can't see us doing it in the flows...but perhaps we could... Add the issue and the team can discuss the approach.

I've noticed the same thing with series movies - BMT often associates with the wrong number. On a related note, I like to group movies that are part of a series together and in order, even if the official movies titles wouldn't sort that way, so I will re-name some of my movies to force them to sort the way I want. BMT overrides this naming.
There is a work-around. You can use BMT (or one of the plugins, like CMT) to manually edit the metadata after BMT has done its thing. Select Manage Metadata and then edit the Title and Episode names (if BMT picked the correct movie, but you just want to change the display name in Sage). Select Search for FanArt and Metadata (if BMT picked the wrong movie). This work-around works if you are actually importing the movies into Sage and keeping them there (I don't know how well it would work if you are keeping the movies on removable media so that they aren't always available to Sage).

Thanks, Jusjoken and Tiki, I may have to give BMT a shot if this gets too frustrating to find media. For the time being, I've actually been using the Search > Import Library Folders > drill in to target directory with proper filename listing.
I'd prefer not to submit this as a feature request, as it seems to work against the "flow" of Gemstone's original intentions. Maybe another user has a potential workaround ... |
