Wow, that blows me away! When I set up my SageTV v6 and later installed the R5000 I followed the instructions directly off of Netxcomm's web site and never had this issue then. Mind you, that was several years ago and the information on their website could certainly have been updated and a mistake made. Although, like you suggest - they are basically coasting at this point...
Either way I'm not sure how long it would have took to iron this out without your assistance. Thank you very much. There may be hope to not have to blow Windows away and start entirely from scratch. I'll add this information to my notes... Will update to close the loop for anyone else following this thread... But I'll start new threads on unrelated questions in the correct areas! RLW |

Yep, the R5000 is now working perfectly - just the one I have, no phantoms!
So that's solved. I've got my full channel listings and no duplications (related to above). So that's solved. But for the life of me, SageTV 7 will NOT acknowledge the watched status of show, even if I shut down both old and new Sage servers and copy the wiz.bin file from the old to the new v7 server. After restarting SageTV 7, it warns me of dozens of conflicts due to it wanting to record various episodes I've already watched. I think I should share how I "do things" - maybe I'm expecting something that is not possible: I set favorites or series and sometimes individual manual recordings to be recorded, like everyone else. However, once a week or so I copy the files (the recorded shows) to my workstation PC and use a tool to strip commercials out. Then I encode to MKV and store them on my NAS. The NAS is where my imported videos come from. SageTV doesn't place it's recordings there, it places them in a directory in the SageTV server itself. After I've done this, back in SageTV, I mark the show as Watched, then I delete it. Sage remembers I've watched that episode even though I've deleted it. Is that "memory" in the wiz.bin? If so, why the heck won't SageTV 7 acknowledge them? Grrrrr.... ;-) RLW Last edited by Phydeaux; 11-06-2012 at 08:29 PM. |

Yes, it is in the wiz.bin, however, I think in pre-7 versions of sage, in an effort to keep the wiz.bin smaller, older data was purged out. v7 does keep all that data indefinitely (able to do to improved database api's), but it may have already purged that data at some point before your v6 backup.

OK, I buy that Fuzzy and that sounds reasonable. However, most (I can't possibly say all) of the missing watched information is recent. Not sure what TV is like in sunny California, but here in the sterile prairie air of middle Canada, much of the stuff I'm interested in from my Satellite provider is replayed ad naseum. For instance, the Military Channel plays series over and over and over.... again, so every day at least a third of what is airing has been aired several times over the last few days. Several channels are like this (most of the ones I watch!). So I can see tons of shows that I've only recently recorded - say, within the last couple weeks - that are still being played and are marked watched in my current SageTV server, but which SageTV 7 doesn't recognize. In fact, the ONLY items that WERE marked watched were items that were still in the recording directory (I copied them over to the new server's recording directory). Nothing in the Program Guide was marked watched - not a single item, scanning over the next 14 days.
So I hear what you're saying, and have no reason to doubt you. But something is wonky. XBMC under OpenELEC is looking attractive at this point! Actually, I'm only half kidding. I've been thinking about that as an option for playback, but keep SageTV as my source for recordings. Again, thanks so much for sticking with me here and assisting. This is a rum one, as grampa would say... RLW |

So, I'm going to start a new thread about this upgrade issue in the SageTV Software section of the forums, since this is unfairly sucking up Gemstone bandwidth when I've not even gotten close to installing Gemstone yet.
Sorry to be off-topic so long. I'll circle back and revise this thread once I get beyond the current issue fixed and if there are further questions regarding the original topic. RLW |

Just to close the loop on this thread, nothing I tried resolved the issue and I was tired of being in limbo between two servers. I just did a clean install of SageTV v7 on the new server, got it working with schedules and recording etc. Then replaced my wiz.bin file with the one from my old v6 server.
Everything is file and my favorites are all there. The watched status was lost, so I had to go through all the recording conflicts to spot the shows that know have been watched and manually mark them as such. It took a couple hours for 3 weeks of recording queue and I expect I'll have to do this regularly. But not forever. I'll get over it. Thanks to all who assisted! RLW |
