Multiple PVR motherboard

Looking for possibly a new chip & board.

My 2 Roslyns would not work in the box I had my first card in (Dell 400SC Intel 875 chipset), so into an AMD box it went.

The AMD box works with both cards, but I have several problems:
- occaisional crashes
- occaisional audio stuttering
- unhappy about being "woken up", i.e. after it's been sitting a while and the tv is turned on & sage is navigated, it's gitchy.

Power options are set to always on, no ss, perf is set to programs.

It's probably the cheap-*** chip/board combo from Fry's... AMD 2600 + ECS nforce mobo.

Eventually I want to have 3-4 Roslyns in my setup, so I need a recommendation for a new board... maybe chip.

Please tell me what works ONLY if you have 2+ cards in your setup.

Form factor is not an issue, obviously I need 4 pci, and I also need 1 AGP for my 9800 Pro to drive my 65".

===========

On a side note, I am using the onboard sound on the ECS, but I have an old SB Live MP3 card laying around... does anyone think that will make a diff?

My Server&Client both using ASUS A7N8X-E Dlx NF2 chipset sysbrd. 4xPVR250s in Server, 1x250PVR in Client. Client video output ATI Radeon 9600 via HD component dongle. Audio out via onboard digital direct coax, not analog out. Rock solid. BTW, sysbrd has two onboard NICS, 10/100 & Gb. I'm using Gb between Client/Server via Gb switch. (Cat5e cabling) See sig' link for more hardware details...

Note: I also purchased a cheaper ECS NF2 chipset sysbrd for my main workstation (not HTPC Client). It has been experiencing lockup and reboot issues. I'm replacing it with an ASUS...

Goodluck!

Edit: Sounds like you're using a single box for both recording and watchng. I haven't done any serious playback tests on my Server so don't know if using just SageTV and no Client would work as stable...

I would venture to say its probably the manufacturer, not the chipset. Lots of manufacturers cut corners to save costs.

My Intel PERLL 865 mobo presently has 3 cards(2 v.16, 1v.15) in it and is working perfectly.

I dunno..maybe im just lucky? None of my AMD boards had such luck.

I've also got a PERLL 865, and it seems to be a very good board. Even has optical digital output on the mobo...

FYI:

mine is an intel board, not ASUS. And it does have a GB NIC. I am no longer impressed with ASUS these days after buying a couple of different boat anchors which were supposed to be bombshells.

opinions- like a$$holes...everyone has one
