I wonder if there's any way to make SageTV's youtube playback capability use external 3rd party "java YouTube video Downloader" code. It looks like that project is kept up to date:

I could not find the download to fix the Youtube problem:
"The media download failed. Error: The requested media file was not found on the server". I did find an STV download date 07-23-2011. The update should be dated close to 10-05-2012 when the fix was announced. I am using Java Version: 1.6.0_10 and Windows 7 - 64-bit. STV file: SageTV7.xml (Version 7.1.9.12 March 10, 2012, Name: SageTV7) Dave Last edited by davephan; 03-05-2013 at 11:13 PM.

It is probably your playon plugin. It forces an older version of the STV file for some reason. If you disable the plugin, you should be switched to the latest STV and Youtube should work.
BTW, the Playon plugin that gets disabled is not really necessary - it gives you a nice PlayOn menu on the main screen, but when disabled all of the Playon stuff can still be found under the "Other online" menu (or whatever it is called).

Hi all,
I too am getting the error message. I do have Playon installed and the server running. I disabled the plugin and I'm getting some strange results. If I use Search>Online Video's to Search YouTube Keywords or Online>YouTube Videos, it brings up the video list, but gives me the error when trying to play. If I try to play YouTube videos from either of these menu's, I get the error message. I can play You Tube videos through Playon which is great, but no search. I tried to stop the Playon service and view any YouTube video, I get the same error. Not really sure what to do or try to get this working. I'll take any input. Thanks!!

Did you make sure you updated the STV to the very latest? It takes more than just running the update once. So if the playon plugin is disable then update your STV to the latest and restart. You should be fine.

Make sure you updated to the latest STV and that the Playon plugin is disabled. If the plugin is not disabled you won't have the latest STV.

Hmm... I would have posted right away if there was a problem. Our family uses it multiple times a day. No problems here on the PC client or extenders.
We're watching the movie trailer of our movie as I'm writing this message. Note: We dont use playon. Just SageTV with the latest STV+Gemstone.

Ok, it appears that not all youtube videos are affected. Quite a lot do work but, some do not.
Try searching Olly murs dear darlin The first video will not play but others further down will. Searching other titles also does not work. PS. I don't use playon either.

I tried a bunch of videos, they all worked as expected; except for the video you mentioned below. I had the same issue with that video using my firefox youtube downloader plugin as well; so, it's not just SageTV that has a problem with that video. Hopefully, we wont see this issue wont spread to other youtube videos.

there many videos that sagetv can't play. mostly new videos...

yeah, it's been like this for some time now. Google owns YouTube, and the defunct Sage. hopefully its not the start of the end, since my TiVo Premiere is once again playing all those videos (Vevo mostly) just fine. Some new movie trailers also aren't working.
