on the other hand....is this Hauppauge getting ready to discontinue the HD-PVR? Without those, that leaves just Colossus. Do you think they are killing the HD-PVR?

Buzzkill! Though, that is quite an interesting (and somewhat scary) thought.

They have had both the original HDPVR and the Gaming edition so I doubt it. A major difference I think is that you want the original if you want a blaster. I use firewire so it won't matter as much unless the cableco's take that away.

I need spdif, so the new one seems useless. otherwise, how do you decode 5.1 audio after the cable co's flag the HDMI outputs of their boxes? Isn't component/SPDIF the only way....

As long as the analog hole exists, component/spdif is the best way, maybe the ebay route is certainly the most versatile.

can someone clear something up for me....who controls the 'analog hole' - the FCC, or the cable companies?

Awesome, what did you have to do to make it work?

Any sync issues or lockups like the colossus?

Just an up date so far no problem after 16 hour of back to back 30 min recoding+channel changing, As you know the the original HD-PVR would have done lock and crash burn with out a fan mod.
Oddly enough this new HD-PVR 2 dose run a bit warm main becuases of the way they design it.

Why oh why couldn't they have released this before my original HDPVRs died and I replaced them with Colossus cards???? I gave up on Sage because I couldn't get the Colossus cards working properly in Sage. AAAACCCCKKKK!!!! I've been using WMC for the past 2 weeks without any problem but would have love to stick with Sage. I sold my extenders and everything!

Newegg has a special going on the Colossus, $120 after MIR. Maybe Hauppauge is coming out with a Colossus 2, with the new Magnum DXTPro Encoder chipset, and Newegg is trying to reduce inventory of the original Colossus???

p.s. They could call it "Even More Colossus"...

1080p30 recording?

The Hauppauge site says it records 1080p30, not 1080p60. Would that "mess up" the appearance of the recorded video?

I have no idea rigth now but I have look in to that later on for now I'm force to use Component Video Cable becuases of HDMI + HDCP copy protection on some channel on DirecTV.
There other vendors jumped into the fray pan with similar products like Diamond Multimedia GC1000 it to only 1080p30
How evev it saying on spec page it video capturing just blow rigth out the box
NTSC Video Capture 720x480
PAL Video Capture 720x576
Or a really big goof up on there part
If what was posted here must be wrong the Fujitsu MB86H58 is H.264 hardware transcoder it not even H.264 hardware encoder.
With Magnum DXTPro H.264 hardware encoder which also dbl as H.264 hardware transcoder just like Hauppauge Colossus.
Here screenshot of HD-PVR 2 Graphedit

I tried one of those. Unless your STB does not have an HDMI output, I would get one of these instead: http://www.monoprice.com/products/pr...seq=1&format=2

And here's why: http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=58515
